The
PAFL
at Paydirt |

|
How we got here
1995, ECCFL (East Coast Computer Football League). Football
Pro by Sierra/Dynamix.
What a great ole game. Online until 1999, the ECCFL ran
through about 12+ seasons before Football Pro'99 came out and
ruined the franchise.
The Paydirt Football League (Madden)
2000, A switch was made to Madden. The 2000 version had online
franchise and that made it online league friendly.
Through the years we changed versions of Madden as they came
out. Madden 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004... 2005 through 2007 saw a
decline in gameplay so we stayed with 2004 for a long time.
However, in 2008, Madden made a comeback. Sadly, again,
because of EA's laziness, we were forced to stay with 2008 far
too long and the newer releases were not available for the PC.
You see? We were all PC Snobs...still are.
2009 -2019 Were known as the great drought with PC Football
gaming. EA Sports had locked up the rights to create NFL
gaming content. Because of this, gameplay paid the price for
EA's laziness. When you own the market, that happens.
The problem with Madden is that it has always been geared
toward joystick jockeys, those guys twisting and cranking on
their joysticks and relying on the tap of their thumbs to make
something happen. (should we be watching this?) The first
thing we needed to do was take that away. So we did. The PFL
is and always has been coach mode. You call the plays,
audibles etc, but you don't control the players themselves.
Through global edits to player skills, slider settings and
rules we were finally able to bring realistic play to Madden.
If you look at the league stats in PFL you'll see they are
very close to the NFL's. Yes, it still has its flaws but
overall it is much better than any other Madden league was
able to accomplish. It has been in play for over 40 seasons at
this time and going strong with a long waiting list. It is
known as the longest running and best PC Madden league in the
world. Mike K. does an excellent job Commissioning the PFL.
But Madden was losing its charm for myself, and so a hunt was
undertaken to find alternatives. That hunt ended with action
PC Football.
While the PFL, (our Madden league), stayed alive on the back
of Madden 2008 and Mike's direction, new leagues were added
using Action PC Football by DK Sports
So why Paydirt Action Leagues? (PAFL & PSAFL)
It
simply
had more realism in its playability. After trying several less
graphically endowed games I settled on Action PC Football as
being the better of what was available, mainly because of its
large community of active players.
But this was a different community, people I didn't know who
had their own ideas on how things should be done with 'their'
game. So I took the time to study the community and the game.
One thing I realized was sadly missing was what we had done
with our leagues...make the site the focal point. Make it a
place they wanted to visit and interact with other owners.
Most, but not all, APCFB league sites were drab and
uninteresting. There was no reason for team owners to do
anything other than meet up and play their game, hardly ever
visiting the site to get to know their fellow league members.
APCFB is such a great game and I thought they were wasting a
great opportunity to do something special with it.
And that's what we've always done with Paydirt leagues...make
it something special. We want to be the league everyone wants
to be a part of; to be the league no one wants to quit
in fear they will be stuck at the back of a long waiting list
to return.
So far, that is becoming a reality. All our leagues have a
waiting list and a majority of our members stick around, and
why not? We're the best....and we're free!
But we're not stagnant.
We continue to work toward a better product and always will.
In the end, it's all about being the best. Any less is
unacceptable |
