49ers News Wire
|
Well the 49ers opened their season at home with the Buffalo Bills coming to Candlestick Park. The game was back and forth with both teams holding a slight lead throughout the game.
With about 5 minutes left and the 49ers holding a 22-15 lead, they needed to gain just a few first downs to Ice the victory. However, the Bills held and had one last chance to tie. With the Bills out of time outs, they completed a pass inbounds but the unfortunate injury to one of the 49ers, gave them an extra timeout, stopping the clock. Facing a 4th and inches, QB Hunter threw into double coverage and his receiver came down with the catch for a TD.
As the 49ers were scrambling to come up with an OT strategy, the Bills lined up for the two point conversion and ran it off tackle for the 2 points. A stunned 49er crowd looked on in disbelief as this victory turned into a heartbreaking loss.
**Positives**
CB Dre Kirkpatrick showed why he was worth the 6th overall selection in the draft by grabbing one INT and adding 3 deflections.
HB David Wilson had a solid game leading to the 49ers releasing HB Ryan Grant after the game due to a lack of productivity.
**Negatives**
No Pass Rush to speak of, Hunter had all day to throw the ball. Unable to stop Lynch, some very nice bruising runs Way too many 3rd down conversions
GG to John, well played, looking forward to the Cards this week. :D |

With close losses to both the Jags andthe Colts the 49ers are scratching their heads in wonder. This is a team many believe could represent the NFC in the superbowl but they need to get things turned around quickly if that has any chance of happening.
Perhaps management should have thought twice before they traded veterans MJD, Tank Johnson, Peterson and Smith. This team still has talent but they need to turn this losing streak around before it turns into a season killer. |

I was looking to get offence with my 2 first round picks (preferably wr) but by the time it got to me my favourite wry were off the board and the hbs were underwhelming so i went back to my roots and went defence.
1.9 ROLB Rob Bennett 81 ovr, 88 speed, 84 str
We think Bennett is a star in the making. He has excellent speed and strength for the OLB position. We will try and improvs his acc in training camp. He will start immediately at ROLB and will move over to LOLB once Lawson begins to lose a step.
1.12 DT Adam Pounds 80 ovr, 96 str, 81 acc
It is pretty easy to see what we liked about Pounds. He is big and strong and can plug up the middle in all our sets. He probably will not get too many qb hits but he can definitely help our interior stop the run. This will allow us to move last years 3rd round draft pick Bradley to the RE position to solidify that spot as well. |

In what was a very strange game the Cowboys manage a 25-22 OT victory. The game was in bad weather and I am not sure if that was part of the shinanigans or not but it was a very interesting game.
The 49ers lost despite MJD running for 249 yds Romo throwing 4 INTs 36 min to 17 time of possession edge 395 to 264 total yards edge
Len called a great game and deserved a hard fought win. Although the 49ers dominated the statistics timely strikes by Romo kept the boys into the game and some good d by Len in OT was the difference. Gratz on a great win and Im openly cheering for the Cowboys throughout the playoffs. |

For an undefeated team we have had our share of ups and downs. The offence has been spotty and the passing game has not been good. Rookie QB Homer Wells has struggled making the transition to the PFL with a 4 td and 9 int ratio. Hopefully he can pick it up in the 2nd half or we will not reach our goal of another PFL Bowl berth. On a positive note HB MJD has been everything we expected and more. He currently leads the league in both rushing yards (1054) and TDs (9). He has been a stud.
Our defence has been carrying us so far this season. We rank 1st in points given up per game at 8.7 which is really the only important stat. Our vets are playing well with Willis and Lawson both having big years but we are also getting good production from some new players that have come in. Leon Hall and Julian Peterson have both provided excellent leadership and play on the field. One defensive player I am very excited about is rookie cb Zeke Sheth. He has been sharing time with veteran cb Clements but still has managed to pick off 4 passes in 7 games. We love his big play ability and excellent cover skills.
All in all a great first half. We have played very difficult teams in the Dolphins, Vikings and Rams twice and managed to win them all. Things will not get easier in the 2nd half of the season with the Saints, Giants, Jets, Cowboys and Cards twice on the sched. Hopefully we can win out and go for an undefeated season. We will not back off from that goal but every week is a challenge. |

So far in 4 weeks the 49ers defense had not allowed a td. The only td that has been scored off the 9ers this season is a fumble return off a kickoff. What makes this an even greater feat is the quality of the 49ers opponents this season. The rams, Vikings and dolphins are all quality teams that can put up big points. The question is how long can this streak continue? I am sure the Rams learned from our week one matchup and will be itching to break the streak. |

A tough game by both teams but the 49ers win 24-10. The 9ers D really came out to play in the first half holding the Steelers to 0 points. Probably the best half of defense we have played all year. It looked a little dicey when the Steelers hit a bomb early in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 10-7. The offense rallied back with Devin Hester providing some big plays. In the end it was the 49ers D and Hester that won the game.
MVP Devin Hester 168 yards and 2 tds |

In the 49ers media day QB Sam Bradford stepped up and guaranteed a 49ers victory.
"We have been through a lot this season. Half way through the season our Hall of Fame GM/Coach abandoned us. Once that happened we were written off. Everyone talked about how the only reason we went 12-4 was because of our easy schedule and division. Well I think we have proven those critics wrong by beating the Panthers and Giants to represent the NFC. Are we underdogs in this game? Yes. Do the Steelers have more talent? Yes again. However, I think this team is resilient and has something to prove going into the PFL Bowl. We have been counted out by many but we believe in this locker room. Our time is now and we are going to take it."
Time will tell if Bradford's comments are Joe Namath like or he will just have to eat his words. Vegas disagrees with Bradford and has the Steelers as 7 point favourites. Can the 49ers live up to the guarantee? We shall see on Sunday. |

The 49ers came out a little discombobulated on defence in the first half and it looked like the Giants may be able to steam roll the 9ers D. The offence was playing well and the game was tied at half 13-13. The 49ers were lucky to be tied. In the second half the defence showed up and held the Giants scoreless and the offence did just enough to win a closely contested game 22-13. Now we meet the dreaded Steelers and their pass rush. Looking at my schedule it looks like my predecessor played the Steelers and did not fair too well. Hopefully we can provide them a better game in the second matchup. : | adden NFL 08 PC v 4.0 Game Log - Giants at 49ers Game Time: Thu Oct 13 23:36:17 2011 Skill Level: All Pro Quarter Length: 12 minute(s)

In a game that set offense back 20 years the 49ers managed to score 10 points and win 10-7. The 49ers took an early lead 3-0 but both offenses looked inept. Early in the 3rd the Panthers score their only td with a 1 yrd run after a bomb to get down into position. The 49ers managed to put together 1 good drive and capped it off ith a 5yrd td run by Brian Westbrook. After that it was all D. : | [Madden NFL 08 PC v 4.0 Game Log - Panthers at 49ers Game Time: Mon Oct 03 22:26:54 2011 Skill Level: All Pro Quarter Length: 12 minute(s)
