Pittsburgh Steelers PFL Season XXX Championship Run
Anyone who has ever won a championship at any level knows what an amazing feeling it is and knows all of the hard work that goes into reaching that pinnacle. For me, this Superbowl run in particular would stand out as something very special. Not only would winning Superbowl XXX mark my fifth PFL Superbowl title, but I would finally get the chance to do it with my real life favorite team the Pittsburgh Steelers. Another factor that would make winning Superbowl XXX extra special was doing it against one of the most successful and highly respected coaches in PFL history, Omari Smith. Growing up I was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I spent many seasons in the PFL as the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions waiting for the opportunity to coach the Steelers. If the day ever came that I would have the opportunity to coach the Steelers it would be nothing less than a dream come true. As fate would have it at the end of PFL Season XXVIIII, the Pittsburgh Steelers ownership felt it was time to move on from long time coach Mike Ryan who needed a fresh start. I was the head coach of the Detroit Lions at the time and had a clause in my contract that should an opportunity to coach the Pittsburgh Steelers present itself that I would be allowed to pursue the job if the proper compensation were offered. I had already won a championship in my first season coaching the Lions so I felt I had done my duty to the city. The Detroit Lions ownership honored their promise and made a trade sending me to Pittsburgh to be the head coach there while bringing in Coach Ryan to be their new coach.

As I began my tenure as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers during PFL Season XXX, I began a mass restructure of the roster. I felt it was a long shot to pursue a championship in my first year as head coach so I began the process of rebuilding. My strengths had always been my hardnosed defensive coaching style combined with a great running game and efficient passing attack so I decided to bring in players that fit that style. I was instantly pleased with the amount of talent already on the roster combined with the new players I brought in via the draft, free agency and trades. I felt that I needed to shake up the roster in order to push the current players and heighten expectations. As season XXX kicked off, to most people’s amazement the Steelers went on an amazing twelve game win streak to open the season. The fans were ecstatic and of course no one expected this amount of success in my first season as head coach. The Steelers went on to win the division and finish the season 13-2-1. That record gave the Steelers home field advantage throughout the playoffs, the number one seed and a week one bye. After the bye week, the Steelers first opponent in the playoffs would be the Buffalo Bills led by their All Pro Quarterback Matthew Hunter and Head Coach Kenneth Washington. The Bills had a record setting regular season with QB Hunter leading an unprecedented pass attack combined with the defensive genius of Coach Washington. The Steelers and Bills met during week 2 of the regular season in which Coach Washington and the Bills fell to the Steelers 12-7. Being that the regular season contest was so close we knew that this playoff game would be huge. During the playoff matchup the Steelers defense came to play and the Steelers ran away with the contest winning 39-6. The following playoff game would have the Steelers facing another old rival in Coach Bill Shamnowski and his Houston Texans. These two coaches faced off in week 7 with the Steelers barely pulling out a 23-21 win. Coaches Hatzis and Shamnowski had a history of always playing games down to the wire and the AFC Championship game would be no different. The Steelers were able to pull out a narrow victory winning 23-20 and were now headed to Superbowl XXX. I had to pinch myself at this point and ask, “Is this really happening”? I had the team of my dreams, was in my first season as head coach and had a chance to play in the Superbowl. It didn’t get any better than this or so I thought…

At this point in the story you may be thinking, okay you made it this far so no problem, go out there and win the Superbowl with your favorite team. The only problem was the opposing coach in Superbowl XXX would be none other than Omari Smith. Coach Smith was the coach of the Green Bay Packers who were defending back to back Superbowl champions. Coach Smith was heralded as one of the finest coaches to ever wear a headset in the PFL. Not only were coach Smith and I huge rivals, but also great friends. I knew that this Superbowl unlike any other, would have a huge impact on my legacy. Winning Superbowl XXX would mean a fifth Superbowl title and a Superbowl win with three different teams in the PFL, both of which feats had never been done by any coach before me. A Superbowl loss however, would mean that I had made it this far with my favorite team, only to lose in the biggest game of the year to one of my biggest rivals and greatest coaches in the league. If I were to lose Superbowl XXX Coach Smith would become the first and only coach in PFL history to win three championships in a row. In an epic Superbowl XXX the Steelers defense which had come through all season long would play an outstanding game on the biggest stage and I would be carried off the field with tears streaming down my face after a 26-20 victory!!!

Pittsburgh Steelers - The Transition

Now that the offseason is in the books and the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise is gearing up for PFL Season XXX let's take a look at the transition of the team under new head coach Jimmy Hatzis. We will take an in depth look at each position, who has come and gone and the starters this year.

Quarterbacks:
QB Ryan Lindley (Former 2nd round draft pick and remains the starter)
QB Tyler Bray (Brought into camp via free agency to push Ryan Mallett for the #2 spot)
QB Ryan Mallett (In competition with Bray for the #2 spot but has fallen to 3rd on the depth chart)

In summary no huge change here as the new management felt that Lindley has a lot of upside, is young and just needs a better supporting cast to really shine.

Halfbacks:
HB Montee Ball (A former Philadelphia Eagles 1st round draft pick brought in through a blockbuster trade with the Eagles to be the day one starter)
HB Ernie Rose (Brought in via free agency to back up Ball)
HB Matt Asiata (Brought in via trade with the Miami Dolphins)

HB's who have moved on - Charlie Peter (Traded to the Miami Dolphins), Germane Odrick (Traded to the Indianapolis Colts), Tim Biakabatuka (Traded to the Kansas City Chiefs) and Tre Mason (Traded to the Kansas City Chiefs)

In summary the organization scrapped every halfback on the roster and brought in fresh, younger and faster halfbacks. We feel that Montee Ball can hopefully turn out to be our version of the Jerome Bettis trade. Bring in a halfback that was not living up to his potential and hopefully turn him into a pro bowler.

Fullbacks:
FB Peyton Hillis (Brought in via free agency to be the starter)

FB's who have moved on - Frank Summers (Released)

In summary there weren't any fullbacks in the draft and not much in free agency so we brought in a tough veteran and plan on looking for a fullback in the future.

Wide Receivers:
WR Cecil Shorts III (Remains the #1 WR as his career begins winding down)
WR David Cook (The only player to make it over from the coaches old team steps in as the #2 WR)
WR Ryan Swope (Taken in free agency with the hopes he can grow in the system)
WR Junior Hemingway (Former 1st round draft pick that has not lived up to his potential who remains from the old roster and is currently 4th on the depth chart)
WR Denard Robinson (Former 3rd round draft pick that has not lived up to his potential who remains from the old roster and is currently 5th on the depth chart)

In summary this is one of the biggest positions of need but due to trading draft picks, a weak free agency market and scarce trade options the Steelers with have to go with little known and young WR's until we can build up the core

Tight Ends:
TE Clive Walford (Drafted to be the day one starter with loads of potential)
TE Zach Ertz (Former 2nd round draft pick that has not lived up to his potential who remains from the old roster and is a solid backup)

TE's who have moved on - Travis Beckum (Released)

In summary this was another position that needed youth and a playmaker which is exactly why we drafted Walford

Left Tackles:
LT Dean Baker (Former 2nd round draft pick that remains from the old roster and who is young with upside and will be the day one starter at LT)

LT's who have moved on - Max Starks (Retired)

In Summary we have an if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality and Baker can be a future stud if he plays to his potential

Left Guards:
LG Jonathan Cooper (Former 1st round draft pick that remains from the old roster and who is young with upside and will be the day one starter at LG)

LG's who have moved on - Chris Kemoeatu (Released)

In Summary we have an if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality and Cooper was a former 1st round draft pick for a reason so he remains the starter

Centers:
C Maurkice Pouncey (An original Steeler from the starting rosters and a monster so he remains the starter)
C Ty Joyce (Former 3rd round draft pick who keeps his job backing up one of the best in the business)

In summary this was our strongest line position and remains that way with no need to change anything

Right Guards:
RG Benjamin Ijalana (Remains from the old roster and maintains his starting position)
RG Josh Harris (Brought in via free agency to be a backup)
RG Hugh Thornton (Brought in via free agency to be a backup)

RG's who have moved on - Jason Pinkston (Released)

In summary this position was also very strong and no changes were made except bringing in better backups

Right Tackles:
RT Taylor Lewan (Former 2nd round draft pick from the old roster who is young and has unlimited potential and remains the starter)
RT Bobby Massie (Brought in via free agency to be a backup)
RT Tom Compton (Brought in via free agency to be a backup)

RT's who have moved on - Willie Colon (Released)

In summary the old Steelers coach wisely used high draft picks on offensive linemen so it's being left alone to continue to grow

Left Ends:
LE Robert Diaz (Another Philadelphia Eagles former 1st round draft pick brought in via a blockbuster trade with the Eagles. Although he demands a high salary, if he plays to his potential the sky is the limit. Obviously he is the day one starter)
LE Horace Swain (Left behind from the old roster and is buried on the depth chart amongst the backups)

In summary the old coach liked stronger defensive linemen and the new regime wants speed so there had to be a major shake up at both defensive end spots

Right Ends:
RE Andre Branch (A former San Diego Chargers 1st round draft pick acquired via trade with the Chargers and who will be the day one starter)
RE Everette Brown (Acquired via trade with the Carolina Panthers and will probably be the best non starter on the roster)
RE Duane Nelson (Former 2nd round draft pick left behind from the old roster who is buried on the depth chart amongst the backups)

RE's who have moved on - Ziggy Hood (Released) and Cassius Marsh (Traded to Chargers)

In summary we could not pass up on having a chance to trade for two former 1st round draft picks at both DE positions who are both still younger with a lot of upside

Defensive Tackles:
DT Scott Snider (Former 2nd round draft pick acquired via trade with the Indianapolis Colts who unexpectedly became the starter)
DT Casey Richardson (Acquired via free agency as a backup)
DT Joe Riley (Former 3rd round draft pick from the old roster who is buried on the depth chart)

DT's who have moved on - Dre Dixon (Traded to Dolphins), Ty Stone (Traded to Falcons) and Ahytba Rubin (Released)

In summary this is the weakest spot on the defense and will need to be addressed as a 1st priority going into the future

Left Outside Linebackers:
LOLB Kris Snow (Former 4th round draft pick acquired via trade with the Kansas City Chiefs and who will be the day one starter so hopefully he can play at a high level)
LOLB LaMarr Woodley (Another original Steeler whose best days are unfortunately way behind him)

LOLB's who have moved on - Thaddeus Gibson (Released) and Rashard Hartley (Traded to Chiefs)

In summary outside linebacker was this teams second most dire position of need but as the Steelers reload we will use journeymen to fill the need

Middle Linebackers:
MLB Craig Robertson (Former 1st round draft pick who has developed into a stud and will man the middle like always)
MLB Rashard McClendon (Former 2nd round draft pick who has plenty of upside and will play side by side with Robertson in our 3-4 defense)
MLB Arthur Brown (Acquired via free agency as a backup)

MLB's who have moved on - Jon Beason (Released) and Lamin Barrow (Traded to Cardinals)

In summary this was one of the stronger positions on defense and needed absolutely no tweaking other than bringing in a backup

Right Outside Linebackers:
ROLB Jelani Jenkins (Former 3rd round draft pick acquired via trade with the Chiefs and who is the day one starter)
ROLB Chris Griffith (Acquired via free agency as a backup)
ROLB Jason Worilds (Another original Steeler whose best days are unfortunately way behind him)

ROLB's who have moved on - Lonnie Knight (Traded to Dolphins)

In summary outside linebacker was this teams second most dire position of need but as the Steelers reload we will use journeymen to fill the need

Cornerbacks:
CB Josh Robinson (Former 1st round draft pick from the old roster and will remain our #1 CB)
CB Ken Evans (Our only holdout whom we signed to a one year deal to shore up the other side of the field until youth can be brought in)
CB Larry Spires (Former 1st round draft pick from the old roster who will play nickel for us)
CB Jerome Murphy (Acquired via free agency)

CB's who have moved on - Walter McFadden (Released)

In summary the cornerbacks on this team are a good mixture of youth and veteran leadership so this position has no sense of urgency in replacing

Free Safeties:
FS DeJuan Cannon (Former 1st round draft pick from the old roster and an up and coming safety in the league)
FS John Jackson (Acquired in free agency as a backup)

FS's who have moved on - Chris Culliver (Released)

In summary the youth and potential here is very nice and both safety positions should be secured for years to come

Strong Safeties:
SS Deone Bucannon (Former 1st round draft pick from the old team and a stud for sure who is the remaining starter)
SS Kelcie McCray (Brought in via free agency as a backup)

SS's who have moved on - Freddie Burton (Traded to Eagles)

In summary as with the free safeties this position was strong and we intend to keep it that way by not messing with it

Kickers:
K Courtney Smelley (Brought in via free agency because of his insanely strong leg. He will be the starter as long as he can keep them between the uprights)
K Josh Jasper (Remains from the old team but lost his job to the newcomer with the outstanding leg strength)

In summary we felt like we wanted a kicker that could win big games from long distances if he needed to and also pin teams back with touchbacks from time to time so we went with a younger more powerful kicker

Punters:
P Daniel Sepulveda (Another original Steeler who will retain his job despite his age because he is still performing at a high level)
P D'Vontrey Wilson (Former 4th round draft pick from the old roster who isn't a very special player so he won't crack the starting lineup)

In summary punter will be addressed in the future do to age but it isn't a huge concern at the moment

Pittsburgh Steelers Announce New Head Coach

The Pittsburgh Steelers organization made a huge announcement this week. According to sources the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired long time PFL coach Jimmy Hatzis. Coach Hatzis replaced an icon in Pittsburgh in head coach Mike Ryan who set a standard for winning division titles in his tenure in Pittsburgh. Coach Ryan set a franchise record by winning an unheralded nine consecutive division titles en route to winning a total of ten division titles during his tenure. Coach Ryan also won two AFC Championships and one PFL Super Bowl. Sources stated that the Detroit Lions made coach Ryan a very lucrative offer and gave him total control over football operations. Coach Ryan felt it was time for a move and saw Detroit as the perfect landing spot.

The Steelers new head coach comes with a decent resume himself winning four PFL Super Bowls, earning a spot in the PFL Hall of Fame and currently owns the highest winning percentage amongst active coaches in the league. Coach Hatzis knows that none of that matters now. This was the job opportunity of a lifetime with Coach Hatzis stating that he grew up a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan and could not pass up the opportunity to be the head coach of such a storied franchise. Coach Hatzis is very excited to get started and has been very active reaching out to fellow coaches attempting to make his mark with a blockbuster trade or two.

PFL Season XXX promises to be an interesting year for the Pittsburgh Steelers as coaching philosophies, personnel on the field and the front office should be changing drastically from here on forward. Coach Hatzis promised Steelers fans that he would do his best to move the Steelers in the right direction and keep the winning tradition alive and well.

Summing up a horrible season
In a season that started promising has totally turned into the ugliest thing I've ever seen...A plethora of dropped passes ...crazy Madden luck...or should I say bad luck but this last game trumps them all...Leading the Bengal 20 to 16 with about 40 seconds to go the Steelers would run on 3rd down and then clock would run out to break a losing streak...but wait...A Bengal player gets hurt and even though he had no timeouts they stopped the clock meaning Steelers would have to punt. Bengal get ball around the 20 and throw a pass to a blanketed Jones who miraculously makes catch at 42 yard line...One last play ...Bradford throws a bomb to Toon who has 3 defenders on him .All 3 defenders get their hands on the ball and the last one tips it right to Toon in the end zone for a 58 yard TD with 1 second left...sums up my season. ...hopefully Madden will be on my side next season.

Steelers win despite giving up 3 defensive touchdowns.
The Steelers would host the Browns in an opening day AFC North battle. Steelers would grab the early lead driving down the field and ending with a Rothlisberger TD pass to Steve Breaston for a 7-0 lead. Steelers would shut down the Browns offense and get the ball back and start driving down field only to see Ben throw a bad pass to CB Joe Haden who would race 58 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. Steelers would again drive down the field only to see Ben throw another bad pass right to Joe Haden who this time would go 80 yards for another Browns defensive TD. At halftime despite leading in total yards 279-7 the Steelers trailed 14-7. Steelers would drive down field again but settle for a FG to cut the margin to 14-10. Another defensive stop would get the ball back for the Steelers only to see Ben throw another bad pass this time to MLB David Harris who would go 31 yards for the Browns 3rd defensive touchdown of the game and a 21-10 lead. After a defensive stop the Browns would get the ball back and actually muster a little offense as Cutler rolling out to his right would find a well covered Josh Morgan but lay it in there for a 40 yard completion. Toby Gerhart would later punch it in for a commanding 28-10 Browns lead. Coach Mike had seen enough and figured this game was lost so give some young guys a chance. Ryan Lindley would enter the game and immediately started throwing darts all over the field to the likes of Shorts,Hemingway and Ryan. The defense continued their stellar effort .Ryan Lindley led 3 long touchdown drives in the 4th quarter capping it off with a 33 yard touchdown pass to HB Mendenhall for a 31-28 Steelers leads with about two minutes left in the game. Browns would get one last shot but rookie MLB Robertson would step in front of a Cutler pass and make the interception. Steelers would then pound the rock down field ending with a kneel down at the one yard line . Lindley was excellent in relief going 16-25 for 208 yards and 1 TD. Steelers would outgain the Browns 529 to 78 as the defense even with a lot of new young faces played extremely well. Rookie 5th round pick LOLB Rashard Hartley had 4 sacks and had this to say after the game. I know my coach was kind of against the league moving to a 5 round draft but he had a big smile on his face after this game and I personally would like to thank the commish because if not for the extended draft I wouldn't be a Steeler and probably would be an unsigned FA or sitting on some teams bench . Germaine Odrick in his first game back after missing all but 4 games last season had 10 carries for 49 yards including a 22 yard scamper at the end of the game for a first down to give the Steelers the win. The Steelers will host the Colts next week and questions remain on who will be the starting QB . Is this the end for Ben? Will Breaston or Bowe be in the starting lineup? Stay tuned!!!!!

Penalty ends Steelers season
In what would have been a thrilling overtime game the Bills got a break on a 3rd and goal with 28 seconds left getting a roughing the passer call so instead of the field goal unit the offense went back in and was able to punch it in. " Its a terrible way to lose a game but it shouldn't have come to that. We had them on that drive on a 3rd and long and let Kenpachi catch a ball while triple teamed. We make the play there and we don't even probably worry about that call. Hard fought game between two evenly matched teams. Probably if we play 10 times he wins 5 I win 5 ...he just got the one that mattered. Good game bro and GL in the bowl.

Steelers clear another hurdle go to 11-0
The Steelers eked out a win against a very tough well coached Bills fan to go to 11-0. With the score 3-3 approaching halftime Bills Qb Hunter would throw a costly interception which gave the Steelers great field position. They cashed in with a Mendenhall TD run to go in 10-3 at the half. Steelers would go up 17-3 after a brutal run game got them into the redzone then Ben finished it off with a TD reception to Breaston for a 17-3 lead. This is where the Bills offense finally came to life. ON the ensuing drive off a PA pass Hunter would find an open Kenpachi for a 84 yard TD to cut into the lead. Steelers would drive down to the 2 yard line but Bills defense stiffened to force a FG to make it 20-10. Bills would come right back but they would stall and settle for a FG to make it 20-13 . Bills defense would stiffen and the offense continued its hot hand aided by a gutsy PA pass on a 4th and inches . RB Cooper would break a 39 yard TD run to tie the score at 20. Steelers would once again drive down inside the 5 but again would fail to punch it in but settle for a FG for a 23-20 lead. Buffalo would drive down around the 20 yard line and tie the game with a FG. With time running down the Steelers stayed patient and continued to hammer the rock which made the Bills crowd the line . With a run play called but 9 to 10 guys in the box an audible to a pass with Shorts streaking down the field was called. The line blocked the blitz and Shorts ran free down the middle of the field for a 67 yard TD reception and a 30-23 lead. Steelers would go into prevent defense and it almost cost them the lead as a triple covered Kenpachi on the last play of the game caught a 50 yard bomb but was tackled at the 1 yard line as game expired...With the division in the bag the Steelers look forward to next week against the mighty Titans who are playing as well as anybody.

Great game Coach ...maybe we will meet again in the playoffs.

Steelers off to a 4-0 start.
After a disappointing loss last season to the eventual Super Bowl Champions the Steelers did what they could with limited free agent abilities and limited cap room to improve . Going in the passing game would have been thought to be formidable but instead it has been the rushing attack of Rashard Mendenhall and the beat Germaine Odrick. Coach Mike " Not sure why we are being so successful running the ball. The line is creating holes and for the most part the backs have run hard. "
The defense as usual is solid despite the sack totals being way down . As teams adjust we adjust is the locker room motto. We are happy to be 4-0 but we have one goal and one goal only. Championships.

There will be a new champ
The Steelers in the first half failed to show up on defense as defenders were bewildered all over the place letting balls fly thru them to eager Bills receivers. Steelers fought back from a 31-14 deficit to cut it to a TD but on final drive were screwed out of a big catch by Breaston on a review then Ben threw an int to seal it for the Bills. " Sometimes your not meant to win a MAdden game and this was one of them. Hats off to the Bills for holding off our furious rally . We seemed to tighten down in the second half but Ben made a lot of dumb passes into the dirt etc...maybe he took a good shot in the first half and was feeling footsteps. Good Luck to the Bills!!!!!!

Steelers not ready to rebuild...just reload.
After a successful season ending in a PFL Championship the Steelers didn't just rest on their laurels and go with the flow . They made some moves to give them a shot at defending their title. With WR Morgan Ryan ready to step into that 3rd WR slot Mike Wallace became expendable and was traded to the Texans for stud MLB Demeco Ryans. Ryans is 31 years old but still has something left in the tank and should wreak havoc in the middle . With ROLB Knight one on side and LOLB Woodley on the other and MLB's Timmons and Ryans in the middle this gives us probably the best LB tandem in the league. Last season Safety Pat Watkins made a lot of plays in the secondary and was a huge addition but it was a tough year for Pat as his skills diminished to the point where we had to make a change. A trade with the Bills brought in Donte Whitner...another older veteran who might only have one year left in him but should shore up the middle of the secondary. HB Rashard Mendenhall enjoyed a very good season but as he gets older the amount of carries he can handle gets less and less. We went all out and grabbed Germaine Odrick who was let go from the Saints. Odrick is a banger , a bruising RB who can wear down a defense . Odrick will see a lot of time at HB and possibly at FB . Going into the draft we only had three slots we needed to fill...WR,CB , and OT.
At 1-29 we selected CB Larry Spires.....Spires has good speed and the desirable size we like. He could possibly beat out McFadden for the CB spot next to Josh Robinson.
At 1-32 we took WR MArco Little....Little has decent speed and is a big kid who just needs some polishing. He probably wont see a lot of playing time this year barring injuries .
At 2-32 we took LT Dean Baker...Baker is huge! 6ft 7 338 pounds of fury. BAker just needs to work on his blocking skills and he could be the anchor of the Oline for years to come.
We know everyone will be gunning for us this year but this coaching staff feels like this team is poised to make another run. If Big Ben can equal his performance of last season the Steelers could see themselves hoisting the trophy as PFL Season 25 Champions.

Good luck to everyone this year and lets make this a great season!!!!

Steelers beat Rams .Coach Mike gets that elusive SB win.
For 6 straight seasons Coach Mike's Steelers won AFC North Champions but that elusive SB victory eluded them with countless disappointing losses including a loss to the 49ers a few seasons ago. After winning a 7th straight AFC North title and getting a narrow victory over the Patriots the Steelers would face their division rival coach Paul and the Bengals. After a defensive struggle in the first half things seemed to go the Steelers way in the second half as they turned a 6-3 halftime lead into a 26-3 victory. The Steelers were given little shot of defeating the NFC Champion Rams and why would they? The Rams had just defeated the two time defending champion New Orlean Saints and were on a roll.
I have to admit I scouted this game more than any other game I have ever scouted and being a defensive coach I was able to learn a few things from just studying the Rams year long stats and player skill set. I thought going in if I could stop the run and limit TE Olsen I could limit the Rams offense and for the most part that plan worked. I thought I would have more success running inside against the Rams but early on that proved to be very tough but I noticed he was cheating his safeties and keying on Shorts . That left the TE's open and Breaston with 1 on 1 coverage . With the score 9-9 Mendehall finally found the endzone and after a good defensive stand I would get the ball back. I banked on the Rams loading up on the run and guessed right but I admit Madden luck was on my side a little as BReaston got away from the defender for a game breaking TD. The defense was solid all game . Against the 5th and 7th ranked scoring offenses in the league we didn't allow a TD. Only starter remaining from the Steelers season 17 defense is Woodley.
Congrats to the Rams for making it this far as I have no doubt that you will get a PFL SB title in the future. Thanks to everyone who sent me messages of support and advice this week. Been a long journey but I can finally say THE STEELERS ARE PFL SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!!!!!

Steelers get back on track with win over Giants.
Steelers started off fast with a long TD run from Mendenhall then a fumbled return for a quick 10-0 lead. Eli Manning kept the Giants in the game all night long throwing darts into tight windows to well covered receivers time and time again but he did make 2 mistakes throwing 2 interceptions. Steeler kicker Jasper continued to struggle as he went 2-4 on Fgs and is 3-6 on his last 9. With the score 27-24 Steelers the Steelers would face a third and 6 from around midfield. Giants would load for the run and BEn would execute a perfect fake and roll right and find a wide open Steve Breaston who would race in the the TD . Steelers had lost 2 games in a row and the mojo was fading fast. Go Eagles!!!!

Steelers escape Baltimore with a win
IN a sloppy rain soaked game the Steelers barely avoided an upset from the Ravens. Steelers blew leads of 16-3 and 23-10 and needed a spectacular catch by Steve Breaston to get into FG range for the winning FG. Cecil Shorts twice was wide open by at least 20 yards and dropped perfect passes. Mike Wallace also dropped a wide open pass that would have been a TD. The rain was a factor in the drops for the Steelers but also in the ball handling of the Ravens who lost two fumbles. Despite 7 dropped passes Ben threw for 300 yards and 2 scores. The Steelers will travel back to Pittsburgh and get ready for the battle of Pennsylvania as they take on the struggling Eagles.

GG Coach.

Last second FG propels Steelers to AFC North lead.
Steelers would host the Bengals and as always this was another classic battle between two division rivals. With the score 3-3 Coach Pigskin would audible to a PA streak to JOnes who somehow against the vaunted Steeler pass defense was open by about 40 yards....10-3 Bengals lead. Steelers first play after the ensuing kickoff was a PA pass to Cecil Shorts who got behind the defense for a long TD and its tied 10-10. Both teams would add FGs before the half 13-13. Bengals would lead 20-13 on another long PA pass to JOnes and at end of 3rd it was 20-13 Bengals. Steelers would respond in the 4th as Mendenhall would take it on a short run to tie the score at 20-20. Steelers would take the lead on another TD pass from Ben to Cecil but it wouldnt last long as the Bengals would calmly drive down the field and with 1:29 on the clock Bradford would find Gresham in the corner of the endzone . 27-27. Mendenhall would return KO to the 23 yard line and a 15 yard face mask penalty would put the ball at the 38 yard line. The Bengals had bottled up the Steeler running game all game allowing only 56 yards going into the final drive . But when the Steelers needed the run the Oline and HBs responded gaining all 46 yards on the ground to set up a game winning FG with time expiring. Steelers will celebrate tonight and get ready for another division rival ...the vaunted Cleveland Browns.

Steelers shut down Chris Johnson in win over Titans.
Steelers held Chris Johnson to 27 yards on 15 carries and held the Titans to 201 yards total offense in a 27-21 victory. Steelers time and time again coverted 3rd downs against the frustrated Titans defense. Steelers even though only won by 6 had almost twice as many yards as the Titans. " Even though we won the game I am still disappointed on how our 3rd down defense played. We gave up some big plays and ben threw an int at the ten yard line that was converted into a TD. But when we needed big plays we were able to come up with them . This is a quality win for our footbal team over a real good coach."

Steelers cant do anything right in loss to Bills
Steelers would travel to Buffalo and couldnt get anything going in a tough loss to the Bills. At least 7 dropped passes and a ton of bad passes by Big Ben doomed the Steelers . Steelers would seem to call the right play and have the D beat but time and time again a pass was dropped or overthrown. Still they had a shot at the end but on a 4th and 2 at the 15 yard line Ben threw a pass 15 yards over the head of a open Heath Miller. Bills deserve alot of credit as they fought hard all day overcoming a 6-0 deficit with two real good TD drives . Buffalo receivers unlike Steeler wideouts came up big bailing out the young Qb time and time again. Steelers would outgain the Bills 282-196 but just couldnt generate any touchdowns as consistancy on offense was lacking. Steelers have some serious ineffincincies and wont win too many more games if they cant correct them.

Steelers corral Texans move to 6-0
The Steelers would host the Houston Texans and would be in a fight all game as the Texans defense shut down the Steeler offense all day. HB Scott coughed up a ball while down but it was ruled a fumble but the defense held. With the score 12-10 the Steelers took a gamble against a pressure heavy texans defense as Ben found a wide open Cecil Shorts III for a 68 yard TD pass and a 19-10 lead. For the fourth straight game the Steelers have given up only 10 points . Once again Ben did not commit a turnover. Next week the Steelers will travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills....Chicken Wings!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big second half propels Steelers past Skins
After a Josh Robinson interception Steelers would capitalize with a 34 yard TD pass to Mike Wallace. But the Skins would strike back with a bruising run over the right side by Trent Richardson and then he turned on the jets for a 80 yard TD run to tie it at 7-7. Richardson would have another big run but this time tripped up after about a 30 yard gain. Richardson had 135 yards at the half....tied 10-10. Second half was a different story as Richardson ended with 148 yards and the Steelers defense shut out the Skins in the second half. With the score 20-10 Rothlisberger on a 3rd and long would find a lapse in the Skins coverage and find Mendenhall wide open for a 61 yard TD pass and a 27-10 lead. After a 4 interception performance in week 2 against the Colts Rothlisberger has answered the bell by not throwing a pick in three straight games ( Of course I probably just jinxed him). Steelers will savor the win for a short time before getting ready for a toguh matchup against a tough Texans team.

Steelers beatr division rival Browns go to 4-0.
Cecil Shorts caught 3 passes for 160 yards and 2 TDs and the defense pitched a shutout till late in the 3rd quarter . Rashard mendenhall rushed for over 100 and Biakabatuka added 59 yards on 13 carries. Rookie CB Josh Robinson got his first career interception . MLB Lawrence Timmons also intercepted a Cutler pass and also had 4 tackles for loss. The Steelers will take their undefeated record to the nations capital to face the Redskins next week . The Skins although struggling always seem to give the Steelers a tough time.

Steelers erase early 10 point deficit to go to 3-0
The Steelers would host the Cowboys and it seemed thruout the first half that the Cowboys could do no wrong converting long 3rd downs to blanketed receivers, catching tipped passes to take a 10-0 lead. Steelers got the ball with 1:13 to go in half with no timeouts and drove down the field. Instead of taking the field goal Coach Mike went for the TD and BEn found Mendenhall in the endzone for a TD . Cowboys dominated the first half but only lead 10-7. Second half was dominated by the Steelers defense as they started to put alot of pressure on QB Tony Romo sacking him 6 times and should have had at least 5 interceptions but defenders had butter fingers. With the score 13-10 Steelers the Steelers were facing a 3rd and 2 from their own 41 yard line. Steelers had been runnning the whole game inside but on this play Mendanhall would race around the left side for a 59 yard TD to put the game away.
This offseason Coach Mike made an effort to revamp his defense and so far thru three games it has worked as the Steelers defense is only allowing 162 yards per game but more importantly only 5.7 points per game. The Steelers defense will be up to the task as they face division rival Cleveland next week.

Steelers defense shuts down Colts move to 2-0
The Steelers would travel to Indi and newcomer Pat Watkins would make his presence felt 16 seconds into the game making it 7-0 Steelers with a 64 yard interception return for a TD. Steelers would win 28-7 despite 4 interceptions from Big Ben. Free Agent MLB Kirk Morrison showed he still has a little gas in the tank recording 14 tackles. Rookie CB Josh Robinson thru 2 games is yet to allow a reception. With the score 14-7 Sepulveda lined up to punt from about midfield. Colts brought pressure and nearly blocked it but roughed the kicker giving the Steelers a first down at the 35 yard line. After a 1st down run by Mendenhall on 2nd down Ben would find Heath Miller for about a 10 yard gain but he would spin out of a tackle then spin out of another tackle and then ,,,,,yes you guessed it spin out of another tackle on his way to a 31 yard TD making it 21-7. Steelers would add another score on a 3rd and long somehow Cecil Shorts got behind the defense for a 80 yard score.
" I am very happy so far with our revamped defense . Kirk Morrison has added some muscle in the middle and Josh Robinson at CB has done very well so far (CTHA 0 Tackles 9) Ben throwing 4 ints is a little concerning as a few of them he just threw into a crowd of Colt defenders. We look forward to next week as we face the Cowboys and coach...Cool Man....really? Cool Man ? Really? "

Steelers fail to show up in loss to Chiefs
Once again Steeler receivers could not hold onto the ball and once again it seemed an opponents receivers caught everything thrown at them no matter the coverage . Game started out real bad for Steelers as Ben was sacked and hit the ground and fumbled but it was called a fumble which was returned for a TD . Steelers would review and it was clear he was down but apparently the referees did not see the same game footage and failed to overturn the TD. We caught up to Coach Mike after the game " I have to admit this game really broke me....when our guys are open and drop easy catches then we see opponent receivers catch ball between 2 to 3 defenders we just got to the point where we gave up. I think at about 17-7 we just lost the desire to even try to compete not that it might have even mattered. We will take this offseason and see if it rejuvenates our desire to go on.

Steelers have butterfingers in OT loss to bengals
The Steelers would host the Bengals and come out on the short end of a 27-24 OT defeat. The game appeared to be headed for a tie but as had happened numerous times in the game a Bengal receiver caught a long bomb while blanketed by coverage to set up the game winning FG. As Bengal receivers caught everything in site that wasnt the case for Steeler receivers as they had a whopping total of 11 dropped passes. Not only did the offense drop the ball but the defense dropped numerous easy interceptions or had ball go thru them for completions. " Coach Paul called a good game and it was a hard fought battle. We would have liked to get a few breaks in this one but it wasnt meant to be. We did get one good catch as Mike Wallace caught a tying 28 yard TD pass with 5 seconds to go in the game . MOst of the drops were for big gains or would have been first downs. Usually reliable Cecil Shorts even dropped a few one of which he might have scored on . We will be investigating wether the Bengals tampered with our equipment and "greased a few palms". We would have rather won the game but it still looks like we win the division based I believe on points scored.

Steelers survive in Cleveland
Steelers would go into Cleveland and escape with a hard fought 16-13 win despite giving up a fumble return for a TD with less than 30 seconds to go in the first half. Coach Mike deciding to just go into halftime with a 6-3 lead handed off to usually sure handed Rashard Mendenhall but he was hit hard and fumbled and the Browns scooped it up for a TD . That seemed to anger Big Ben as he drove the team down the field with less than 30 seconds to go in the half and cap it off with a TD pass to Mike Wallace for a 13-10 halftime lead. Tough game as both teams made mistakes and had some bad calls go against them . Once again the Steeler defense would not force a turnover despite several opportunities to do so. Coach Mike had this to say" Tough tough game against a division rival led by a well respected Coach. WE have gone over some scenarios and it seems we have clinched the division somehow even if Bengals win out.....but we want to leave nothing to chance next week and will look to get the win and sweep the division. Lamarr Woodley should be available for full duty next week and hopefully but doubtful we can get a good lead and rest some guys but that never happens against the Bengals as we will be lucky just to escape with a victory.

Steelers get off to terrible start in loss to Vikings
The Steelers would travel to Minnesota and would focus on HB Peterson but it was Percy Harvin who would do the damage as in the first half it didnt matter how well he was covered he still came down with the reception as the Vikings led 20-7 at the half. Steelers would have first and goal in the redzone but Vikings defense stopped them in the 4th. Later in 4th Steelers would this time punch it in to cut the lead to 20-14 . The Steelers had a chance to win the game but Ben would throw a pick 6 to put the game away for the Vikings.
Coach Mike had this to say " When playing the upper echelon teams you need some things to go your way and today they just didnt. I thought we had alot of the plays defended very well and were shocked when the passes were completed . Also you cant lose the turnover battle 3-0 and expect to beat the better teams . We are still in control of the division but know the Bengals are breathing down our neck."

Steelers win a wild one over Broncos
The Steelers would host the Denver Broncos and early in the game it was the same old story...turnovers. With the score 3-0 Denver with Steelers inside the 10 yard line Cb Cox would step in front of a Big Ben pass and race 94 yards for a pick 6 to make it 10-0. Ben would throw 3 interceptions on the day but also accounted for 4 tds with 3 thru the air and one rushing. Late in the game faced with a third and goal from the 1 yard line Steelers would call a QB sneak and Ben would fumble but Steelers who didnt get many breaks in the game finally got one and recovered at the one yard line. With 4th and goal from the 1 knowing a chip shot FG sends it to overtime the Steelers went for the win and Ben went across for the winning TD . With 2 seconds to go Steelers did a squib quick that went out of bounds then a completed pass seemed to end the game but a face mask penalty on the Steelers gave Denver one more shot. Luckily the ball fell to the turf as we were real nervous as Denver receivers were catching balls while blanketed by coverage all day.
We will savor this win but wont savor it to long as we have to get ready for a very talented and well coached Vikings team.

Steelers start slowly but come on strong to beat Pack
The Steelers would travel to Lambeau field and fall behind 7-0 on the third snap from scrimmage as Packer HB Moon would juke several defenders then race 81 yards for a TD. Steelers would answer with a short TD pass to Breaston but Packers would keep fighting and at halftime it was tied at 10-10. Second half was all Steelers as the offense got rolling and the defense shut down the running game and Thigpen just could not provide any kind of spark as the Steelers would pull away for a 30-10 victory. A very bizarre game on the injury scene as it seemed like every other play someone was going out with an injury..hopefully no long term injuries occurred. For the third straight game the Steelers would limit the turnovers and for the third straight game would come out victorious....hmmm maybe a correlation. No time to rest as next week we host a real good Bronco team who can score a ton of points.

Steelers get back to basics in win over Ravens.
Steelers went into Baltimore and controlled time of possession with over 36 minutes as the defense played very well and Rashard Mendenhall broke the 100 yard mark rushing. Big Ben was very proficient not throwing for a ton of yards but completing 14-19 passes for 195 and 1 passing TD and 1 rushing TD. The Steeler D thought for the second straight game they would not allow a touchdown but some how WR Bailey caught the ball between 3 defenders then juked them all and raced 68 yards for a score. With Woodley still sidelined Thaddeus Gibson stepped in and played nicely with 5 tackles 1 for loss and a sack. " We were very lucky to get out to a fast start as Baltimore fumbled the opening kickoff and we cashed in with a FG then converted a interception into another score in the first half. So with a lead in the second we were able to stay in our game plan and thats run the ball and play solid D. Ravens passing game can be downright scary but they lacked a running game in this one and we made them one dimensional which is hard for any team."

Steelers Goaline defense comes up big in win over Bengals
The Steelers would travel to Cincinnati in a must win game and would allow the Bengals to have first and goal four times but only allow 6 points as Lawrence Timmons came up huge picking off a Sam Bradford pass in the endzone then swatting down another on a 4th and goal. Coach Mike got risky on a 3rd and 4 from their own 7 yard line calling a pass play as Ben connected with Heath Miller for a big first down then the running game took over driving down the field and eating up the clock to savor a hard fought 13-6 victory.

Woodley watches from sideline as Steelers D lays an egg
Steelers defense gave up big play after big play in a 31-24 loss. Even with the defense giving up 456 yards they still had a shot thanks to 3 TD passes from Big Ben and should have had 4 but WR Mike Wallace was wide open in the endzone and put his hands out to make the catch but when ball arrived he jumped away from the ball like he was scared of it and it dropped harmlessly to the turf so Steelers settled for a FG . Texans sacked Big Ben within FG range to end the game. LOLB Gibson filling in for Woodley had 1 sack and an interception but was frequently abused by the Texan TE's and FBs as they would jump over him to make catches. He also struggled to stop the run . " Very dissappointed in the overall effort of our defense and the running game. This is a rebuilding defense and losing key members is devastating to us. Hopefully we can pull out a few wins till Woodley gets back and hope for no more disconnects ."

Steelers ground and pound rival Baltimore
The Steelers would host division rival Baltimore and come out on top with a 19-14 victory. Steelers ineptitude in the redzone continued along with good goaline defense from the Ravens as K Josh Jasper was 4-5 on FG attempts . Rashard Mendenhall would rush for 122 yards on 22 carries with his longest run only 19 yards and the defense would hold the Ravens to 209 total yards. Once again though the Steeler defense would give up crucial big plays on jump balls as Ravens WR Bailey smothered by Steeler defenders would outjump the defenders and come down with catch after catch. With All Pro TE Heath Miller sidelined with injury backup TE Matt Spaeth would make two catches one being a 25 yard gain as he out jumped safety Ed Reed to make the catch for a first down setting up a Jasper FG. Rookie WR Morgan Ryan would not make a catch but made a crucial play using all his 6ft 5 frame to snag the last ditch onside kick allowing Big Ben to take the victory knee sealing the win.

Good Game coach . Keep plugging away as we have faith you will turn things around in Baltmore.

Steelers get back on track with win over Lions.
Ben Rothlisberger threw for 293 yards and CB Walter McFadden ran back an interception 80 yards for a TD as the Steelers beat the Lions 30-13. Things got off to a rocky start for the Steelers as Lions HB Noah Diermyer took a handoff around the right side broke a tackle and spun out of another and raced 61 yards for a TD and a 7-0 Lions lead. Steelers would have alot of success moving the ball but the Lions defense would clamp down in the endzone and force Jasper FGs. With the Steelers trailing 7-6 ben would find Cecil Shorts for a 71 yard TD and a 13-7 lead. In the 3rd quarter with the score 16-7 Steelers Stafford would throw an errant pass that TE Brent Celek made a feeble attempt at catching but all he did was deflect the ball into the waiting arms of Steelers CB Walter McFadden who raced 80 yards for a TD and a commanding 23-7 lead. Steelers thinking they were comfortably ahead backed off a bit and the Lions made them pay driving down the field capped off by a 30 yard beautiful pass for a TD to Ice Diermyer. Lions would go for 2 to try to cut the lead to 8 but the Steeler defense stepped up and made a stop. Tim Biakabatuka would add an insane 21 yard TD run where he seemed to break a tackle from every member of the Lions defense. We caught up to Coach Mike after the game " We got some breaks in this game against a tough opponent . We finally put together a turnover free game but we did make some mistakes that could have cost us. Mike Wallace who has played very well was wide open in the endzone but dropped a sure TD pass that forced the Steelers to settle for a FG. Our defense gave up too many big plays for our taste. Hopefully we can once again put it all together next week against division rival Baltimore who is coming off an impressive victory.

Same old story....turnovers and penalties = loss
The Steelers would host the Patriots and would once again be the benefactor of a major anal thumping from the Madden Gods as we just couldnt catch a break. Mendenhall would fumble at the 7 yard line so the Steelers coachs challenged the call and with the replay he was clearly down but the referees still gave the ball to the Patriots. Big play after big play by the Steeler offense was called back because of penalties as the Steelers racked up 6 penalties for 63 yards . Despite all the penalties and the turnovers the Steelers had a chance to win the game at the end but Big Ben would throw his 4th interception which was returned 96 yards for a Patriot TD. Despite outgaining the Patriots 321-212 the Steelers suffered their third loss of the season. Coach Mike had this to say " We are so effin frustrated with the luck we have been having . We have been playing our asses off just to get screwed by bad Madden luck. We are outgaining our opponent by about 90 yards per game and it just seems like we cant get any good luck. But it is a long season so we are going to keep fighting ."

Steelers beat Browns 24-10 stop 2 game skid
The Steelers would host the Browns in a must win game as with a loss the Steelers would face their first season with a losing record this far into the season ever . Steelers came out hot pounding the ball down the Browns throat as their first drive was all run plays 8-70 yards capped off by a bruising run by HB Tim Biakabatuka. The next drive would be a little quicker as Ben would find WR Cecil Shorts for a 67 yard TD and a quick 14-0 lead. Browns would battle back as WR Chansi Stuckey would post up 2 Steeler defenders at the pylon and come down with the catch for a 27 yard TD to cut the lead to 14-7 . Steelers would drive down to the 3 yard line but a goalline stand by the Browns would force a Jasper FG for a 17-7 halftime lead. Browns would add a FG in the 3rd to cut the lead to 17-10 but a nice drive by the Steelers capped off by a Mendenhall TD run would widen the gap to 24-10. Steelers trying to run off some time in the 4th quarter would face a 3rd and inches . Here is the play by play. "Rothlisberger takes the snap, it is a QB sneak but Ben falls down ...nobody has touched him yet so he gets up and starts to run to his right ...oh he gets a block and he is finally tackled after a 8 yard gain and a first down. With all the drama of that play however Kicker Jasper would miss a 47 yard FG and the score would remain 24-10 with a little more that 2 minutes remaining. Browns last effort would stall at the 9 yard line and the Steelers would run out the clock. The Steelers pick up a crucial win as next week they host the New England Patriots...Hopefully there is no rain.........

Once again turnovers cost Steelers in loss to Chiefs
So far this season the Steelers just cant seem to catch a break. Twice Chiefs fumbled and even the replay showed they fumbled but for some reason they overturned it. But despite that Steelers were in it at the end but a costly mistake at the 5 yard line as Steelers went for the win and Ben threw his second interception of the game to seal the win for the Chiefs. Once again the Steelers out gained an opponent and once again because of turnovers and the Madden Gods they came out on the short end of the stick...Madden Oh Madden what did I do to you ? After the game Coach Mike was seen praying on the sideline to a statue of John Madden...we couldnt quite hear the whole conversation but it went something like this" Please oh please let us get a break once in awhile...please let our guys catch a couple interceptions when the ball clearly hits them smack dab on the hands or please please if it is a fumble ...make it a gosh darn fumble!!!!!! The Steelers on the season have only forced one fumble which I believe was done inside 2 minutes of a half so coach couldnt challenge it and have only 2 interceptions. -5 in turnovers just wont get it done . The Steelers will hold two a day practices this week to prepare for the Browns...One practice to go over football related material and one practice to pray to the Madden statue.

Steelers cant overcome turnovers and mistakes in loss to Oak
The Steelers would travel to Oakland in a tape delayed game and just couldnt get any breaks. Big Ben would throw 3 first half interceptions leading to 17 Raider points and the receivers didnt help out much with a ton of costly drops and throw in a few penalties and you have a formula for losing. Ben would throw for 356 yards and 2 TDs but the interceptions were too much to overcome as the Raiders built a 24-7 lead. Steelers would cut the lead to 24-17 and seem to have the momentum forcing the Raiders in a 3rd and 12 when Mcnabb would somehow Raider rookie WR Fryar who beat the deep zne for a 73 yard TD and increase the lead to 31-17 . Rookie WR Ryan had 2 costly drops on 3rd down plays and may be working his way down the depth chart. The running game never really got going after falling behind by 17. We figured we were the favorite coming in and in a mistake free game think we would beat this team every time but what we feared would happen happened and with the parity in the league you cant expect to win making a ton of mistakes. Hats off to the Raiders who came to play and played a mistake free game.

Steelers start 2-0 with win over Chargers.
RB Rashard Mendenhall was in rare form in this game showing a great burst, the ability to break tackles and soft hands as he was the difference in this one for the Chargers. Steelers defense held the Chargers in check in the first half but some unbelievable catches by Charger receivers were able to bail out QB Rivers to keep it respectable.

We asked Coach Mike on how he thinks his team is doing.

" We have brought in a new defensive gameplan and it has seemed to work thru the first two weeks. We have alot of inexperience on defense so have to try to overcome that weakness . On offense the two headed attack of Mendenhall and Biakabatuka has seemed efficient as RB Dwyer just hasnt shown us he has what it takes as he sometimes misses the hole and has had a problem with fumbles. "
Next question" I just have to ask Coach but what is the story behind this rug?"
Coach Mike" Well this mysteriously came in the mail with anonymous on it but it was mailed from Cincinnati so we have an idea where it came from. Maybe we have started a new tradition here in Steeltown."
Reporter " Mind if I take a picture of it?"
Coach Mike " Sure go ahead and after that get the heck out of my office so I can enjoy a nice tall cold victory beer. And oh btw your wife is on line 2....tell her to stop calling me please"
Reporter " So there ya have it "

Steelers open season with a win
The Steelers would host the Bears to open the new season and would win in impression fashion 20-10. Steelers were able to control the game with some tough defense and a bruising running attack spearheaded by the two headed monster of Mendenhall and Biakabatuka. Pro Bowl WR Cecil Shorts helped the passing game with a 30 yard TD reception and rookie WR Morgan Ryan added 2 3rd down receptions. "We have been really working on the running attack and getting back to basics. Two seasons ago we were in the Super Bowl with a aging but very talented defense. Only 2 starters remain from the Super Bowl defense...Lamarr Woodley and Troy Polamalo so we are happy with how we have been able to not rebuild but just reload. On offense we just have to be patient but sometimes it is hard because we believe that top to bottom we have maybe the deepest wr corp in the league and you wanna get those guys involved. Steelers are already back to the drawing board in order to get ready for Jerry and the high flying Chargers.

Steelers draft class
The Steelers front office came out feeling pretty good about the rookies they selected despite drafting so late .

1st Round: WR Matt Harris -Couldnt pass this guy up. Has great size at 6ft5 235 lbs and reportedly can dunk a basketball on a 14 foot rim. Very agile for his size. Has good speed and quickness and we believe because of his height and jumping ability he can still be a deep threat.

2nd Round: RE Duane Nelson- Because of salary cap issues we had to draft to fill our roster but were still able to find a guy we believe can play right away. Being set with two 3-4 type LBs we set out to get a pass rush specialist for our 4-3,nickel and Dime sets and think we found one. Great explosiveness ,agile for his size and decent speed. Not great against the run as he lacks strength but should be able to deliver some pressure off the edge as most defenses will key on Woodley.
3rd Round: Traded this pick for ROLB Lonnie Knight from Buffalo. We believe Lonnie can step right in and start and be a decent replacement for James Harrison. Has great strength for a OLB ,decent speed and acceleration and pretty agile for a big guy. Will continue to learn his awareness of the game as well as his tackling techniques.
4th Round: DT Dre Dixon- Once again having to draft to fill roster spots we think we found a future starter in Dixon. Has decent strength and good acceleration to break up plays in the backfield. Will continue to learn better tackling techniques. Only concern is his size as he is only 6 foot tall and under 300 pounds. Will have to monitor his in game performance to see how this affects his performance.

Steelers eke out one point win to advance.
Both teams struggled to throw the ball but found the ground game working as both teams rushed for 192 yards . WR Andre Johnson almost single handedly won the game for the Texans with his jump ball receptions but came up one short at the end . Hard fought game and we are lucky to come out with the win.

Steelers end on a high note hope to carry it into playoffs.
Rothlisberger went 17-25 for 274 and 3tds with 1 interception while the running attack was strong as well rushing for 141 yards with Rashard Mendenhall gaining 112 of those yards to lead the Steelers to a 31-7 over new coach Blitz and division rival Baltimore. The Steeler defense looked like the defense of old holding the Ravens to 7 points and 192 total yards. Now the Steelers will sit back and hope things unfold for them to gain a first round bye. After a 9-0 start a first round bye seemed inevitable but a late season skid as Steelers went 3-4 to end the season.

GG Coach and welcome to the AFC North!

Steelers fall under the Madden curse in loss to the Jags
Steelers dominated every facet of the game except for the final score as the Jaguars squeak out a 17-16 win . Steelers led 13-0 at halftime and it could have been alot worse if not for a few drops and a fumble at the 4 yard line. In the second half WR Boldin must have came out with pine tar on his gloves as he was able to grab 3 deep passes despite being surrounded by three Steeler defenders. Steelers had one last shot but on 4th and 10 WR Steve Breaston dropped a first down catch that would have put the Steelers into field goal position. " We really hate playing these games in the rain because wierd stuff always seem to happen and we seem to always be on the bad end of it...you would think playing in Pittsburgh we would be better in adverse climates but I guess not. Hats off to the Jaguars as they hung in there and stole one today. " Now gotta regroup and finish the season strong and hope that ole lady luck gives us a break for once as we sure havent had one the last few weeks.

Steelers play terrible in blowout loss to Browns.
Taking nothing away from the Browns as they executed a perfect gameplan and steamrolled the Steelers but this was a game from the get go that the Steelers were not going to win. The defense which has played so well this season seemed to be in the right positions but time and again the Browns receivers would somehow make receptions. The Steeler run defense would swarm to the ball only to seem to hit the ball handler like they had no arms. "We lost are normal playbook and was using a totally unfamiliar playbook but thats no excuse for the poor excuse of a running game we showed. Very lackluster effort by our receivers as they dropped 8 passes but I counted more than that and several would have been good for TD's. CB McFadden seemed to have excellent coverage on Stuckey all day but somehow Cutler would get the ball to him. Most games those balls go incomplete but this just wasnt our day. Ben made alot of bad decisions and some eyebrow raising throws. A big concern with the defense as we have lost 3 out of 4 and in those 3 losses gave up over 30 points...not acceptable. With a tough game coming up against the Bengals we have no time to start panicing as we need to win out to even hope to have a first round bye.

GG Coach ...next season should be very interesting in the AFC North. :P

Steelers fall down early lose in final seconds.
In a battle between to division rivals who know each other very well it would come down to a 52 yard FG with 14 seconds left to secure the win for the Bengals. As they say in the PFL there is no easy game and Steelers going in didn't expect one as they fell down early 20-6 but clawed back to tie it at 20 and again at 27 but a nice drive to end the game by the Bengals set up the game winning FG . Once again the long ball hurt the Steelers as Julio Jones grabbed 3 balls for 111 yards against the Steeler deep zone. Big difference in the game was the Bengals redzoen defense as they were able to hold the Steelers to a FG in the redzone and the Bengals were able to convert TD's. "Was a great game and we knew the Bengals would come to play....they are alot better than their record indicates..hopefully the outcome will be different the next time we meet."

Steelers rebound by beating Dallas
The Steeler defense looking make up for a bad showing last week took it out on Tony Romo intercepting 3 passes and sacking him 7 times and held the Cowboys to 46 yards rushing. Ben Rothlisberger played an efficient game and the running game wasnt spectacular but effective. The Steelers will now get ready to play division rival Cincinnati with a chance to lock up the division.

Steelers commit 5 turnovers suffer first loss
Rothlisberger would throw 4 interceptions and Dwyer would lose a fumble in a thrashing from the Dolphins..once the Fins smelled blood they kept attacking . " We were suprised with around 2 minutes to go and Dolphins up by 21 points that they kept throwing and calling all out blitzes but weve adapted the philosophy if you dont like it stop it and will hope to see them again down the road. Big Ben had this to say about the teams first loss" Totally my fault tonight. I missed some wide open guys and you cant expect to beat the good teams when you throw 4 interceptions. But we will be optimistic and look on the bright side and now the pressure of a undefeated season is gone and we can just go play football and concentrate first on winning our division then trying to secure a first round bye.

Good Game Coach your team played well and deserved to win.

Steelers defense confuses Manning ,stay unbeaten.
The Steelers would host the Colts and the Colts would start off strong as the Colts Oline showed they could handle the Steeler blitz and quick slants worked well. Steelers defensive coordinator had to change up his schemes and they worked to perfection forcing Manning into 3 ints one which was returned for a 90+ yard TD by ROLB James Harrison. Rashard Mendenhall who has taken over the starting HB duties rushed for over 100 yards and WR Cecil Shorts caught a 61 yard TD pass for a 30-10 victory. For the first time probably since the beginning of man Mikes legendary blitzkrieg defense did not muster a sack. The Steelers improve to 9-0 but next week face their hated rival Jim and his legendary Miami Dolphins.

GG Coach and GL rest of season.

Steelers win a thriller in Houston to go to 8-0
The Steelers would travel to Houston and in what we thought would be a defensive battle turned into an offensive shootout. Houston QB Jake Locker who we thought was a mismatch against our defense had a gunslinger mentality and would time and time again on 3rd and long plays throw it up to what looked like covered receivers and they would make a play to bail out their young QB. Houston would lead 17-3 when the Steelers offense would wake up and the Ben to Cecil show began. Cecils second touchdown of the game would tie the score at 17-17 but back came the Texans with a go ahead TD but they would miss the extra point. Steelers would respond with Bens 3rd TD of the game ...all going to Cecil Shorts and Jeff Reed would nail the extra point for a 24-23 lead. Back came the Texans and once again would convert a 3rd and long en route to the go ahead TD. The Steelers defense though would step up and stop the two point attempt so Texans would lead 29-24. After taking a sack Ben would face a 3rd and 19 and would deliver with a 39 yard pass to Heath Miller to keep the drive alive. Steelers would mix the run with the pass and with 23 seconds to go would punch it in the endzone . Steve Breaston would catch the two point attempt for a 32-29 lead. Texans would have one last chance and after a excellent kickoff return to the 46 yard line would seem to be in business but the Steeler defense was able to make a few plays and the last pass was batted down in the endzone. For the first time this season the Steeler offense would bail out a poor effort by the defense. "Texans always play us tough and kudos to their receivers for making plays. They will be a force to be reckon with"

Steelers go to 7-0 with a dominating win over the Broncos
The Steelers would host the Denver Broncos and hold them to 100 total yards in a 19-3 victory. The Steelers defense nearly pitched a shutout but a 10 yard punt by Sepulveda gave the Broncos the ball at the 29 yard line to give them a gimme FG. Free Agent aquisition Rodrick Muckelroy came up with two interceptions as the defense held the Broncos to 52 yards passing. Good Game Frob and good luck rest of season.

Steelers improve to 6-0
The Steelers would host the Baltimore Ravens in a divisional game and come out on top 34-24. Steelers raced out to a 21-3 lead and never looked back. Rothlisberger and WR Cecil Shorts were on the same page once again hooking up 6 times for 111 yards and a touchdown. Rookie RB Tim Biakabatuka only had 4 carries for 10 yards but two were for touchdowns. The Steeler defense when needed clamped down on the Ravens offense sacking Flacco 7 times and even got their first interception of the season. The Steelers have already started to get ready for next weeks showdown with the Denver Broncos.

Steelers overcome mistakes again to stay unbeaten.
The Steelers would host the New York Giants and somehow come away with a victory despite a muffed punt in the red zone and a Rashard Mendenhall fumble inside the 10...oh and also a missed 41 yard FG for a 21-13 win. Big BEn had a good game 12-18 for 256 and 2 TDS and the defense held the Giants to 66 yards rushing and sacked Eli 6 times.

GG Coach and GL rest of the way.

Steelers squeak out another to improve to 3-0
The Steelers would travel to Cleveland and despite 3 interceptions by Big Ben and only 80 yards passing would come out victorius 16-10 . The defense would play tough all day racking up 6 sacks and forcing 2 fumbles...one which iced the game for em. Very lucky to be 3-0 only scoring a total of 42 points. We need to get back to the drawing board and figure this out.

Good game coach and till we meet again!

Steelers once again overcome mistakes to go to 2-0.
It wasnt pretty but the Steelers are 2-0 thanks to their defense. Once again the Steelers would commit 2 turnovers that would lead to 6 points for the Redskins. The Steeler D would come up big on both occasions as one turnover gave the Skins the ball at the 22 yard line and the other at the 6 yard line. Steelers defense would hold the Redskins to 185 yards of total offense . The Steeler offense wasnt much better only gaining 214 yards but were able to make a few big plays to pull out the win. Facing a 3rd and long Big Ben was able to connect with Ronald Johnson for a 39 yard pass down to the 2 yard line and on 3rd and goal Jonathan Dwyer would punch it in for the games only TD. With 3 minutes to go the Redskins would go up 12-10 . The Steelers would put together maybe their best drive of the game driving the ball inside the 5 yard line and Jeff Reed would nail the chipshot FG with 1 second left in the game.
" We need to get alot better on offense . We cant expect to win all these nail biters and have our defense bail us out all the time. With all the newly aquired weapons we should be playing at a much higher level. Gonna change some things up next week on offense. Very pleased on defense how our new starters are filling in. Timmons and Muckelroy have been solid in the middle and Cullilver at safety has played well. We got are work cut out for us next week against division rival Cleveland.

Steelers overcome mistakes to nip Titans in Overtime.
Steelers would outgain the Titans 379-222 but would need overtime to dispatch of the pesky Titans . A muffed punt inside the ten led to the Titans only TD and a Jonathan Dwyer fumble at the one yard line prevented a Steeler score. Last seasons rookie of the year WR Cecil Shorts III had a monster day with 8 receptions for 204 yards and a TD but also had 5 crucial drops. The Steeler defense harassed Pat Devlin all day sacking him ten times. Big Ben had a decent day with 285 yards passing and 1 TD without a interception. The Steelers will practice this week on securing the football better as they prepare for next weeks game against the Washington Redskins.

Steelers win another scrimmage
80,000 screaming fans packed into Heinz Field on free ketchup night to watch an exhibition between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots. Despite 5 turnovers the Steeler offense would rack up over 400 yards and get the win. Good game Wiggy.

Ready for the season!
Will be an interesting season in Pittsburgh with up to 6 different starters on defense and 3 on offense.

CB Walter McFadden will replace Brandon Flowers at LCB and will be pushed by keenan Lewis and Bryant McFadden

DT Alan Branch will replace DT Casey Hampton in the middle.

MLB Lawrence Timmons will replace the retired James Farrior and also at MLB Keyaron Fox will replace released MLB Larry Foote.

FS Ryan Clark was let go so Chris Culliver and Vincent Fuller will battle it out to see who will start at FS.

DE Eric Foster will battle veteran Aaron Smith for the starting LE spot.

RE Brett keisel will also try to hold off Ziggy Hood for the RE spot.

On offense WR Hines Ward is retired so Steeler management went out and brought in two young talented Wide Receivers in Steve Breaston and Ronald Johnson.
Last season are passing game was pretty much two targets....Cecil Shorts or Heath Miller. This season we feel confident we can go 4 or 5 wide with the talent we have. HB Dwyer will only get better and Mendenhall has accepted his back up role as he will still see a good number of carries. HB Mike Hart could prove to be a good 3rd down back or fill in as needed.
Will be interesting to see how all the new talent plays out on the field.

Reports that Wes Welker deal fall thru.
A rumored trade between the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers has reportedly fallen thru . Rumors are that the Patriots cant risk such a high cap hit for Wes Welker. Steelers will continue to look for a go to receiver.

Steelers will look a little different this season.
With last season ending in a disappointing fashion with a Super Bowl loss to the San Francisco 49ers the Steelers looked to address a weakness but it didnt come without a cost. Some big time players had to be let go on defense in order for the offense to get better. Last year other than rookie Cecil Shorts there wasnt a receiver who stepped up and made big plays. This season Coach Mike looked to address that issue and hopefully has given Big Ben some more weapons to work with. The rumor mill has WR Steve Breaston and WR Wes Welker coming to the Steelers. Coach Mike had this to say " Look for alot more 3 wide receiver sets and alot more versatility in our offense. Dont get me wrong we wwont lose our identity and thats we would rather smash you in the mouth but I think teams will be less opt to stack the box. Defensively we lose a little awr but I think we will be faster. Look for some different schemes. "

Steelers reply to Sam Bradfords prediction
Hi everyone I am Colin Cowturd and I am in the Steeler locker room after a rigorous Steeler practice talking to Defensive Player of the Year Outside Linebacker James Harrison .
(Colin) "James , did you hear the guarantee from Sam Bradford?"

(James) " Yes Cowturd I did"

(Colin) " What would you like to say regarding this guarantee?"

(James) " I have one prediction for Sam Bradford"

(Colin) " Oh please do tell"

(James)...(Using his best Clubber Lang voice) "PAIN"

(Colin) " OK then well this is Colin Cowturd reporting from the Steeler locker room, now back to your regularly scheduled program"
