DRAFT PROSPECTS ANALYSIS: CENTERS

There are only four centers with the Star Development monicker and maybe one or two other prospects that could hear their name called in the earlier rounds of the draft. This group may require, though, a GM to do a bit of a deep dive to conclude which snapper is the best fit for their franchise. It is, however, easily the most athletic class of centers perhaps in league history with no fewer than seven hikers who will be more agile than any player currently in the PFL!

Quinn Blevins ( 21 years old, 6'2" 229 Lbs) might go number 1 but there are some concerns. The Clemson grad has the top acceleration (82) in the class and has enough strength (89) to be effective but he seems more of a finesse type blocker who might work better within more of a passing scheme than a power running attack. His 84 lead block and 82 impact block ratings are not bad but neither rating would sit in the top 20 in the league whereas his 76 agility rating would have him right at the top of the PFL! His strength/acceleration numbers would be upper tier ratings but he still profiles as more of a finesse type center.

22 year old Washington Huskie Landen Brailsford (6'3" 302 LBs) is the complete opposite of Blevins. Brailsford's combine numbers might characterize him more as a power center. His 91 strength would have him entering the league in the top 5 in that category and his 78 agility number would make him the second most athletic snapper in the PFL right away! His athletic/power combination profiles extremely well for interior trap offenses and, while you would like him to have a bit better acceleration (81), he should be very good in getting out and onto linebackers and then sustain with his 84 impact block. That 84 likely needs to improve for him to be a true upfield interior blocker but progressions should get that accomplished.

San Diego State Aztec Moises Berger is a massive figure standing at 6'5' and 350 LBs! He will be the heaviest center in football when he finally dons a PFL uniform. He does not have great acceleration numbers (80) but he is surprisingly agile (77) and has enough strength (87) to be able to hold up on the interior. His lead block (86) is the best in the class while his impact block (83) ranks as #2. In addition, Berger is the only center rated with a High Motor. Of course, the main drawback has to be Berger's age (23) and that alone could deter GMs from selecting him in the first round. Berger will likely slide some in this draft but could end up as a tremendous 2nd or 3rd round steal.

Youth seems be a much bigger factor in the PFL than, at times, is warranted. 20 year old Oregon Duck Ryan Contreras could, as a result, have his name called prior to any one of the above three snappers. He needs a great deal of development but is balanced and raw enough where he can be molded into whatever type center one desires over time. If a team is willing to develop Contreras there is no reason to not believe he will become an outstanding center especially considering his 81 agility rating would be the best in the league even beyond that of Brailsford. That agility number will allow Contreras to get out and locate targets. His current profile reveals he is more of a finesse than power guy but the numbers, with his age growth potentials considered, are close enough where the owning team can progress him to become either one.

There are a couple of other centers that should garner at least some consideration. App State's Jamarcus Mynard and LSU's Kimo Makaneole both are seen as athletic. Mynard is viewed as more of a finesse run blocker while Makaneole has power running attributes. Mynard is 21 years old while Makaneole is 22 years old. Neither will be taken early in the draft but both are strong and athletic enough to fill the role.

PRE-DRAFT RATING: 1-Quinn Blevins-Clemson, Landen Brailsford-Washington, and Ryan Contreras-Oregon all rate atop this list and their final rating depends solely upon what center asset a particular GM is seeking

4-Moises Berger-San Diego State

5-Kimo Mynard-Appalachian State

6-Kimo Makaneole-LSU
