PAFL Week 14 - Game Writeups

Seattle (1-12) @ Minnesota (5-8)
Minnesota continues their quest to continue their never-having-a-losing-record streak while Seattle remains fully in the running for the top overall pick in next year's rookie draft.  While Minnesota's chances took a major dip with their loss to the Lions last week, they have been playing better in recent weeks, while Seattle followed up their upset win over the Titans by taking a serious blow to the chin against the Chiefs.  While the Vikings may have a tough time securing a win over the Bears in Week 16, they have more than enough to keep the pesky Seahawks in check and preserve the status quo.  Seattle 10 - Minnesota 24

Detroit (8-5) @ New York (N) (7-6)
This game will play a major role in determining who will secure that 6th and final playoff spot in the NFC, as it would be tough for the Giants to overcome a 2 game lead AND the loss of H2H, while the Giants officially control their own destiny with a win.  Detroit enters this game without one of their big 2 CB's, with Awuzie on the shelf for the next two weeks, and that is just the kind of opening that Kenny will look to exploit in a must win game for their post-season chances.  Detroit 24 - New York (N) 27

Dallas (10-3) @ Jacksonville (13-0)
Truly the right match-up at the wrong time for the Cowboys; their injuries at safety rob them of any depth in the secondary (though Rodney McLeod is marked as probable this week), and Waddle being out denies a major weapon in the pass game.  While the Jags do have some guys sitting, Justin Herbert has his full arsenal at his disposal, which will mean that Jonathan Taylor will need the game of his life to keep the Cowboys in this one and try to score the upset.  Dallas 21 - Jacksonville 28

Cincinnati (11-2) @ Indianapolis (7-6)
It seems like a full Gwyneth Paltrow/Alex Murdoch trial docket ago when the Bengals had to get a last second touchdown with 3 seconds left to secure the first game of this divisional battle; this week, a Cincinatti win locks up the AFC Central and secures a 1st round bye in the playoffs; for the Colts, they really need this win as they seek to overcome their H2H loss to San Francisco back in Week 11.  Both teams are facing serious fatigue issues as the season winds down, but in this matchup, Bob has the home field and is just a bit healthier in the secondary, so I am going out on a limb and predict he keeps from being swept in the season series, and keeps pace with the 49ers for at least another week.  Cincinnati 27 - Indianapolis 28

New Orleans (3-10) @ Miami (4-9)
In the AFC East Basement Bowl, the Saints truly are dealing with alot of stuff; not only do they have only 4 guys dressing that are D-linemen, but they have major fatigue issues at the skill positions.  While the Dolphins have their own issues throughout their roster, they are much more intact at this point in the season, and should be able to take advantage of their depth and keep themselves above the basement.  New Orleans 10 - Miami 21

Carolina (2-11) @ Cleveland (10-3)
It's hard to call a team that is 10-3 "snakebit" but Cleveland finds themselves with a couple very tough games coming up and possibility of being a road team throughout the playoffs.  Of course, none of that will really matter in this game, as Carolina will find it tough to put points on the board against the Browns.  Carolina is well set to get the top non-QB in the upcoming draft, and should continue on that projectory after this week.  Carolina 10 - Cleveland 24

Tampa Bay (4-9) @ Chicago (12-1)
The Bucs are continuing their climb to respectability, their game last week against the Packers notwithstanding; that said, The Bears just keep on rolling as their look to secure the top seed in the NFC come playoff time.  In a few seasons, this matchup might be more competitive, but this season, the Bears should firmly finish the sweek of Tampa Bay this season.  Tampa Bay 7 - Chicago 28

Arizona (10-3) @ Pittsburgh (3-10)
Arizona took a major hit with 1 of their main CB's being out until the unlikely event of the Super Bowl, but fall in the company of many teams suffering from late season injuries/fatigue.  Pittsburgh has been a tough out this season for whoever they have played, despite last week's shut out loss to the Colts, so they will not be taken for granted; that said, the Cardinals should be able to maintain their lead in the NFC West for at least the time being, and manage to get past the Steelers.  Arizona 31 - Pittsburgh 17

Green Bay (6-7) @ Los Angeles (A) (5-8)
Despite the numerous challenges the Chargers have faced this season, they still have a winning season in their grasp by winning out, the Packers being the biggest obstacle in that path.  Fortunately for LA, Green Bay is dealing with alot of injuries in their secondary (though a couple of the Chargers' main weapons will also be missing), so while it will probably be a very close game, I'm going with the mini-upset and giving the slightest of edges to the Chargers as they go to recover their season.  Green Bay 23 - Los Angeles 24

Los Angeles (N) (9-4) @ Tennessee (4-9)
The Rams got throttled last week by the nearly perfect Bears, dropping them from a first place tie in the NFC West; no worries, as their Week 16 rematch with the Cardinals means their fate is still in their hands as they look to extend their division-winning streak.  The meet a Titans team this week that lost to the Chargers last week, in a game that was statistically as tight as you could hope for, but falling short like too many games already this season.  Tennessee is probably the best 4 win team in the league, and they will most likely continue that streak this week, as the Rams look to taking back their place on top of the West.  Los Angeles (N) 31 - Tennessee 21

San Francisco (7-6) @ Las Vegas (8-5)
This game will do alot to decide who wins the AFC West; a Raiders win, and they will hold what is essentially a 3 game lead in the division by virtue of the season sweep, while a San Francisco victory will even things up in the West, with the Raiders having to face Jacksonville next week.  The 49ers have played as well as could be expected this season, but on paper, the talent disparity of the rosters stands out just a bit.  It's not as all that San Fran can't win this game, I just can't in good conscious predict it.  San Francisco 24 - Las Vegas 28

Washington (3-10) @ Atlanta (1-12)
While this game has absolutely no effect on the playoff race coming up, it does have an effect on possible draft positioning as the season winds downs, as this stands as the best chance the Falcons have at getting another win this season.  Both teams are dealing with injuries as the season slowly comes to an end, but the injuries seem to be a bit heavier on the Falcon side of the ledger, not to mention the hammer known as Derrick Henry is available this week, as well as possibly Saquon.  In short, I think Andy gets his 4th win as his rebuilding effort in Washington continues.  Washington 24 - Atlanta 17

Denver (5-8) @ Kansas City (3-10)
New owner of the Broncos Rudy Grobin has managed to play respectable defense as he gets used to his new toys in Denver, but have had to face two of the tougher teams in the AFC his first two weeks out.  This week he faces another tough out in Kansas City, who have played well above their pay grade as they will be integrating their draft haul next year into their young roster.  Denver should be able to have some success with their offense this week against a weak Chiefs secondary, and finally see their offense slide over the 20 point mark.  Denver 24 - Kansas City 17

Philadelphia (10-3) @ Buffalo (11-2)
Along with the Dallas/Jacksonville and the Detroit/New York games, this is GOTW material and should be a great bame.  Buffalo has been one of the stingiest defenses this season, with their CB combo holding down most teams, and the Eagles will be minus their #2 RB and possibly their #2 WR as well, making even the great Aaron Rodgers sweat just a bit.  While Buffalo is looking at a game time decision with regards to WR Robert Woods, the Eagles are down their #1 CB as well; in short, while this game could go either way by virtue of luck and coaching, I am just seeing more ways this week where the Bills can put points on the board than I can the Eagles, which is where I am tending to lean.  Philadelphia 17 - Buffalo 21
