PAFL Week 16 - Write up

Can the Eagles soar again?
The Eagles have not had "Rick Main" like results, but they did manage to beat the Cowboys by 31 in Week 12.  The Cowboys will really need to fix their defense this off-season, but that won't mean alot this week, as the Philly tries to end on a bit of a high note  Philadelphia 28, Dallas 21.

Gearing up for the playoffs in Sin City
In many ways, this game means more to Denver than it does Las Vegas; with 2 games left this season, it is guaranteed that the Raiders will be the #2 seed in the AFC, and have a bye.  Meanwhile Denver is trying to stay out of the cellar in the AFC West.  Even with the added incentive, I just can't predict the Broncos pull off the upset in this one  Las Vegas 32, Denver 13.

Battle for the West this week!
Pretty much the division comes down to this game here, as Rams try to protect what is theirs in this 2nd game against their division rival.  Of course, I am not predicting myself in this one (I've read that script too many times) but a win by the Redbirds will be about the same as waiting for one of those eclipses...something you won't see every day.    Los Angeles (N) 21, Arizona 17.

The Pack is going to the playoffs!
In a game already played, the Packers continue to fight for seeding as they beat the Lions, and look to secure a 1st round home game.  Green Bay 37, Detroit 14

The G-Men are on a roll
Since a rough start to the season, the Giants are quietly on one of the hottest rolls right now in the league, having won 8 of their last 9 games.  Ken finally settled with Brissett as his QB of choice, and while he is probably maxed out attempt-wise for these last two games, come playoff time New York will not be an easy out for any team in the NFC.  The Steelers are better, whether or not their record indicates it right now, but this week, I doubt they stop a Giants team looking for a home playoff game.  Pittsburgh 17, New York (N) 27.

The Wheels on the Bus go....off?
Before going any further...kudos to Andy for taking the Commanders towards being competitive probably a season ahead of time; that said, the last few weeks have been rough for Washington, as they have fallen from 1st to out of the playoff picture.  Meanwhile, Doug has his Panthers not only in the playoffs, but looking to hopefully get a bye...very impressive.  I expect these trends to continue this week as "seeding" will be the word of the final week.  Washington 20, Carolina 27.

The Vikings keep on battling to the end
In another game already played, the Bills are assured of a spot in the playoffs, but don't have the services of Lamar Jackson as their offense sputters and gives Minnesota a nice win near the end of a disappointing season.  Buffalo 3, Minnesota 17

Both teams watching their seasons play out
I would love to be Shakespeare and recite a long bit of prose that would make this game more enticing than it probably will be; instead, I see Chicago continuing their march and entering the playoff on a roll.  Miami 10, Chicago 35

Missed it by "this" much
When the tale of this season is written by the Saints, those two games against Cleveland will be the ones that will probably sting the most, as pretty much every other game New Orleans played to perfection.  Not many teams win 10 games and miss the playoffs, but that my very well be the story of Don and the Saints, who easily beat the Seahawks earlier this week.  Seattle 6, New Orleans 31

Just a year or so away

Both of these teams miss the playoffs, but have better days ahead as they match up for a game of pride in the AFC.  San Francisco could finish the year in 2nd place in the West, while Tennessee is pretty much secure in their standing, while also boasting a slightly healthier squad.  In what will probably be one of the more entertaining games this week, I give the edge to the Titans by just a smidge (metric measure...look it up).  Tennessee 24, San Francisco 23

The Chiefs could be dangerous next season
Injuries and attempts seem to have caught up with the Chiefs, as they look towards next season and trying to make a move up for the playoffs.  The Chargers are looking to just finish the season as well, having gone 3-7 down the stretch.  Both teams are budgeting big time on trainers, but I think the Chargers are just a bandage better than Kansas City and will squeak out a victory.  Kansas City 16, Los Angeles (A) 21

Undefeated???
Last year, the Jags took an upset loss late in the year that ruined their perfect season.  This year, they are 1 win away in the regular season, as they thumped Cleveland earlier this week.  Jacksonville 34, Cleveland 10

The NFC South alive and kicking
Tampa Bay has played very well this season, improving greatly over the old "Saints" team that was battling to score, much less be relavent in games.  The Falcons are waiting for their franchise QB to start next year, and will be in excellent shape to pair him up with a weapon and reshape the NFC West for seasons to come.  This week I give the nod to the Bucs, mainly because I live near Tampa (nepotism at its finest).  Tampa 21, Atlanta 20

GOTW, Part Deux
Last, but certainly not least, these two teams are battling to see who gets to host a home playoff game and also claim the division.  Week 3, the Bengals won by a FG, and there is nothing to suggest this game won't be any closer.  I didn't research to see who owns the tiebreaker if these two teams are tied, but I love a good story, and seeing the Colts inch out a win and make it interesting is my cup of tea.  Cincinnati 28, Indianapolis 31
