PAFL Week 10 - Write ups

Remember the Super Bowl?
OK, so not quite a replay of SB LVIII, but should still be an interesting game.  Fun Fact...Kansas City currently has the top offense with regards to yards gained in the league, and average 50 more YPG than the 2nd place team.  What should make this interesting is that both defenses have had their issues this season, but I somehow have a hard time thinking San Fran is going to match up with Tua throw to throw.  Thinking here is that the Chiefs manage to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, for at least another week.  Kansas City 31, San Francisco 24

Be sure to yell "SKOL" before eating Flipper
The Vikings managed to put a halt to their slide and beat an also reeling Chargers squad last week, and now look towards putting together a bit of a win streak this week against the Dolphins. Yep....those same Dolphins that managed to shock the Bills a couple of weeks ago, so be careful before lighting up the grill for some Mahi Mahi.  Still, I think Eric makes it 2 in a row and works towards putting a sub-.500 season behind him  Miami 14, Minnesota 21

But can these Eagles soar?
The offensive struggles for Philly are for real, and Aaron Rodgers...well it's a good thing he is already a legend.  With a season stat line of 8 TD's and 16 Int's, Aaron has done nothing in his losses, not even cracking a passer rating of 40 in his last 3 games.  The Bengals hung in there for most of their game against the undefeated Raiders, staying within a single score all the way until the end.  I think Cincy has way too much offense for Philadelphia to try and match and Aaron would have to have a dramatic improvement to change the Eagles' fortunes.  Philadelphia 13, Cincinnati 24

Battling for a trip to the post-season
This is one of those games where a Week 10 game has major ramifications for the post-season.  With 8 teams competing for 6 playoff spots, there is a very real possibility the loser of this game may see themselves watching the playoffs instead of playing in them.  The Giants are currently on a 3 game winning streak, while the Chargers have lost their last 4 games; now throw those stats out the window.  Valentino is taking over the Chargers, and has a track record of success, while the G-men got 2 of those 3 wins against the winless Cowboys.  This should be a good game, but I think Valentino finds a way to frustrate the New York QB's for his first PAFL win in awhile.  Los Angeles (A) 24, New York 21

Battling for a trip to the post-season, Part Deux
Let me say for the record...when it comes to predicting games, I think I could have a headless chicken outpick me most weeks.  Last week was a prime example; the idea that a bottom 5 offense could put up 3 TD's against the top scoring defense in the league was not on my radar.  Now, I've come to also realize that Cleveland is going to have to muddle through without Stafford for awhile, and that learning curve is still being learned.  Meanwhile, the Colts have won 5 of their last 6 games, and seem to be on a bit of a roll; in a case of two teams boasting the same record, I tend to go with the hot hand, so.....  Cleveland 17, Indianapolis 24

The Panthers growl again to catch up in the East
This game has already been played at the time of this writing, but I can say I wouldn't have gone the other way.  I suspect that this division is going to be tight all the way till the end, with the Week 16 Game being one that could decide the division.  The loss earlier this season against New Orleans really weighs down the Titans playoff hopes, and the path to 10 wins is neither certain nor does it ensure a trip to the post-season.  Washington, objects in your rear view mirror are just as big as they look. Tennessee 20, Carolina 30

The battle for AFC East supremacy - GOTW
BY RECORD, this game looks to be a classic; the upstart Saints against the Super Bowl champion Jaguars.  NOW...one could say just throw everything against the wall and show up all steam ahead against a team that is 28-1 over the last 2 seasons.  OR...the Saints could rest some of their fatigued guys and prepare themselves for for the remaining winnable games on their schedule, and in the process way exceed pre-season predictions with a playoff berth.  Don...there is no shame in being strategic...just sayin'.  Jacksonville 31, New Orleans 14

The Bears are beginning to make their move
Tampa may have a similar record to last year, but a closer look shows they are playing much more competitive football, and will make life alot tougher in the NFC Central next year.  Meanwhile, I think Calvin has figured out the best way to coach Hurts and by winning the rubber match against Green Bay next week have their destiny in their own hands.  I don't see that changing this week, as Chicago look next week to secure another H2H against the Panthers in their quest for the top seed.  Tampa Bay 17, Chicago 27

And the Packers bounce back from a tough loss
So...while Davis Mills showed signs he was due a gold jacket last week against the Redbirds, this week the QB play was just a BIT less impressive.  In the 2nd of 3 games already played, the Packers went up by 3 scores early in the 2nd half and cruised to an easy victory.  Next week, the Packers face the Vikings, where they have 2 games to drive a stake in the heart of Minnesota fans; meanwhile, the Falcons have a very winnable game next week against the 49er's before facing a fairly brutal schedule to end the season.  Green Bay 40, Atlanta 3

The Steel Curtain stands in the way to success?
The Cowboys defense has been porous to say the least so far this season; if ever a game presented itself for Dallas to stand tall, this is one.  That said, Jason has these Steelers playing better than they have played since I have been in this league; pretty soon, this division is going to be a dogfight, as soon as next year.  I do think that Dallas will start to drift towards better performances, but until I see it, I am going to go with the eye test so far this season  Dallas 27, Pittsburgh 31

Another week of pillaging for those Sin City Raiders!
Las Vegas played hard and held off the Bengals to remain undefeated; at this point, Las Vegas and Jacksonvill are almost assured of byes; the question will be who is the top seed.  Seattle is another team that may not have the record to show it yet, but are poised to make some noise...next year.  This year?  I don't see how they manage to upset the Raiders, in what is becoming a very lop-sided division.  Seattle 17, Las Vegas 34

So can these Lions take down a Buffalo?
Don't look now, but Detroit has won their last two games and are a real threat to Minnesota for 3rd in the Central; meanwhile, after a 3-0 start, Buffalo has gone 2-4, and got slobberknocked by an improbable game from Miami.  So...with the playoffs on the line, can the Bills hold on to a playoff spot?  I say this partially in jest; the Bills gave the Jags their only loss last season and Derril is one of the top coaches in the league.  I think this is the week where we start to see them creep up and dominate like they have done in season's past.  Detroit 14, Buffalo 21

The NFC GOTW - Battle for a bye?
So both of these teams sit at the top of their respective divisions, though one has spent alot more time at the top than the other.  Andy has taken advantage of his 5th place schedule to some degree, and even within that schedule, the tougher part is waiting for him in the coming weeks.  Meanwhile, Kenny is enjoying Brady's swan song, and has one of the top scoring offenses in the league.  We have seen alot of unexpected results so far this season, and so it wouldn't amaze me to see the Commanders win...but I think this is where the Panthers catch Washington for 1st place.  Washington 21, Los Angeles 31

The Redbirds get back on track...for one week at least
Rebuilding is never fun, and in the 3rd game already played, Arizona essentially ran over Denver to get back on the winning track.  Rudy has a alot of ammo to improve over the next few seasons, and I know he knows how to read a draft board, so in the long-term Denver will be fine.  Arizona recovers from a tough loss last week, though a trip back to the Super Bowl may only come by virtue of a ticket.  Denver 13, Arizona 41
