PAFL Week 12 - Write ups

Pittsburgh (3-8) @ Los Angeles (N) (8-3)
The Rams rebounded after a tough loss against cross-town rivals LAC with a solid win over the Falcons; this week, they take on a Pittsburgh team that put up over 500 yards of offense against Kansas City.  While the Steelers are giving the last season of the Big Ben era a sense of nostalgia, they may not be in a position to draft their next great QB given their recent winning nature...that said, I think the Rams are poised to help the Steelers regarding their draft position.  Pittsburgh 10 - Los Angeles (N) 28

Jacksonville (11-0) @ Carolina (2-9)
While the Jags are looking at a tough stretch of games to finish the season, they would be well-advised to not overlook the Panthers; for one reason, Carolina handed Dallas one of their only two losses on the season so far.  Secondly, Patrick Mahomes is always waiting to walk on water and get into a gunfight he usually wins.  All that said, Jacksonville is on a mission and should be able to go into the stretch run of their season with perfection intact, at least for another week.  Jacksonville 31 - Carolina 17

Detroit (6-5) @ Tampa Bay (4-7)
The Lions are currently tied for the final playoff spot in the NFC, but have a stretch of games after this week that could take a bit of starch out of their shorts.  While those last 5 games look to be a challenge, Detroit would be wise not to overlook Tampa, as they are coming off a tough win against the Commanders last week.  Detroit should be able to come out on top, though Goff vs. Lawrence will have an entirely different flavor come next season.  Detroit 28 - Tampa Bay 21

Arizona (8-3) @ Cincinnati (10-1)
Nino has been on a roll since coming back to the PAFL, and may by the end of next week have the division and a 1st round bye wrapped up.  Arizona caught some breaks last week, with 2 defensive TD's and a Hail Mary being the margin of victory over the pesky Chargers last week.  The Bengals appear to have things well in hand, and predicting them in this game is very easy...which I will do just to keep karma at bay.  Arizona 24 - Cincinnati 28

New Orleans (2-9) @ Philadelphia (8-3)
Don is still in line to take either a QB or one of the top D-linemen in the rookie draft, and is looking to take a very beaten down defense to the City of Brotherly Love.  Meanwhile, the Eagles are only a game back of Dallas, with both teams facing some tough games to finish the season, making the battle for a 1st round bye that much more interesting.  Philly simply has much more depth and available players than the Saints do, and should be able to outlast any challenge New Orleans has to offer.  New Orleans 16 - Philadelphia 28

San Francisco (6-5) @ Green Bay (5-6)
This should be a great game; both teams are looking to secure the final playoff spot(s) in their respective conferences, and both teams have been involved in some close wins/losses.  Of the 2 teams, Green Bay needs this win the most, as they will be either underdogs or toss up against their respective opponents, while the 49ers do have a very winnable schedule down at the end of the season, but will need to stay at least tied with the Colts to secure that final playoff spot.  This is literally a pick em' game, but if I have to choose, I'll go with the Packers, who have just a few more skill guys available for this game.  San Francisco 26 - Green Bay 27

Denver (5-6) @ Buffalo (9-2)
Denver had a heartbreaking loss against the Titans last week, with Tennessee both literally and figuratively running the ball down Denver's throat.  If Tennessee can hold the ball for nearly 38 minutes last week, one has to wonder how they intend to stop Buffalo, or make any hay against that secondary.  Several very good teams will be watching the playoffs from the sidelines, and time is running out for the Broncos not to be a casualty of that fact.  Denver 21 - Buffalo 27

Los Angeles (A) (4-7) @ Chicago (10-1)
Daniel has finally gotten the handle on running the Chargers, with a big win over the Rams 2 weeks ago, and a deceiving loss to Arizona, where they held a 1st half lead, only to see it go away from a Hail Mary pass to end the half.  Other than a minor burp at the buffet line of this season so far, Calvin has performed as expected as he pursues a 2nd straight PAFL title; while LAC has the players to make this close, I would have to go with Chicago to continue their march for the #1 seed.  Los Angeles (A) 21 - Chicago 31

Miami (4-7) @ Cleveland (9-2)
Quietly, the Dolphins have put together a 3 game winning streak, and may officially now be out of the running for the Bryce Young sweepstakes; that said, that streak will in all likelihood come to a screeching halt this week.  Cleveland ran into a Bills defense that dominated last week...while DKS has certainly shocked and awed in the past, their ability to conjur up an offense that counters the fierce front 7 of the Browns is highly doubtful.  Mark me down for Cleveland to get themselves back on track this week.  Miami 10 - Cleveland 31

Tennessee (4-7) @ Seattle (0-11)
Just when you thought the Titans were circling the drain, they suck you back in, just as they did last year.  The impressive win against Denver leads you to wonder where that team has been all season, as their hope for the post-season hangs on by the barest of threads.  Seattle continues to look towards the draft and who their future starting QB will be; I fully expect all things will proceed as they are already going.  Tennessee 27 - Seattle 17

Indianapolis (5-6) @ Atlanta (1-10)
Don't get me wrong; the Colts are still looking favorable to securing that final playoff spot in the AFC, with the 5 of their 6 games entirely winnable, and only losing to Cincy by a single point in their last matchup.  That said, their loss to San Francisco last week gives Bob and the Colts precious little wiggle room.  In short, the 49ers will need to lose 2 games with the Colts winning out to secure the 6th playoff spot.  Indy should win this week; just love the storyline and whether San Francisco can keep pace.  Indianapolis 27 - Atlanta 7

New York (N) (6-5) @ Minnesota (4-7)
The Giants came THISSS close to handing the Jags their 1st loss of the season; meanwhile, the Vikings met preseason expectations last week and pulled off the upset win over the Cowboys.  The Giants will have their hands full and I doubt Kenny will be taking this game for granted; that said, the Giants have a more than solid defense, and should be able to sneak in the win, by the slimmest of margins.  New York (N) 26 - Minnesota 25

Dallas (9-2) @ Washington (3-8)
Dallas slipped from their winning ways last week against Eric and the Vikings, but still lead the NFC East by a game over the Eagles; that said, Len will now have to earn the division by keeping pace with Rick for the division lead.  This week, the face a Commander squad that has fatigue and injury issues with their skill guys, and I don't see how Washington is going to be able to keep up over all 4 quarters.  My nickel goes for the Cowboys over the Indian, errr, Commanders.  Dallas 27 - Washington 20

Las Vegas (6-5) @ Kansas City (2-9)
Mark this down...this is the week when the Raiders start to pull away in the West.  Kansas City has been playing way over their heads this season, and have been in many games you would think they were over-matched, but this is one matchup I don't see them overcoming.  Las Vegas won by 42 last time; I doubt it will be by that much, but if probably won't be all that close.  Las Vegas 35 - Kansas City 10
