PAFL Week 3 – Write ups
So we are well in the midst of the NFL playoffs, and just lie the NFL, things are a bit topsy turvy in the PAFL, particularly in the NFC, where the only undefeated teams left all missed the playoffs last year, and two of playoff teams in the NFC from last year are searching for their first win of the season. The AFC looks similar to last year, with the exception of New Orleans enjoying a bit of a sugar high. Anyway, on to Week 3…
Tennesse (0-2) @ Seattle (1-1)
So this game is already in the books, but can’t say I would have picked it differently than it ended. Heinicke had pretty much a perfect game, and Purdy suffered from the lack of San Fran’s weapons. It gave the Titans their first win and kept them out of the basement in the AFC Central Tennessee 31 – Seattle 7
Los Angeles (N) (1-1) @ Las Vegas (2-0)
Tough stretch of games to start the season for the Rams, meeting both the Bengals and the Raiders in these first 3 weeks; The Radiers are not suffering from a rough start to the season like they did last year, and I think they may be a tough matchup for Kenny traveling to Sin City. Los Angeles (N) 21 – Las Vegas 28
Pittsburgh (1-1) @ Miami (0-2)
Pittsburgh is actually tied for the lead in the Central, which most likely won’t last, but then again, is longer than they spent there for several years. Playing the winless Dolphins, they stand an excellent chance to stay there for at least another week, when they will be hosting the defending champs. Balloons are meant to be popped, but for this week at least…. Pittsburgh 24 – Miami 17
Chicago (1-1) @ Green Bay (2-0)
Calvin has been kanoodling his roster (technical term…don’t look it up), but I am guessing he will have all his guys out there ready for the Packers. Green Bay is for real this year, and the solid win they had against Detroit shows they are a solid pick to make the playoffs, so falling 2 games behind in the division is not something Chicago is wanting to do. Chicago 31 – Green Bay 24
Carolina (2-0) @ Washington (1-1)
So Carolina decided why wait for next year what you can get done today, and laid a thorough butt-kicking on last year’s division winner, putting the Eagles 2 games behind in the basement and leaving the Panthers all alone at the top of the NFC East. While there is a lot of season still to be played, Carolina looks well poised to extend their lead and make things very interesting. Carolina 27 – Washington 21
Los Angeles (A) @ Detroit (1-1)
Daniel may not be able to hook up online to play his games, but his Chargers are currently looking very good right now, with a balanced offense and a solid D. They travel to Detroit, where they take their top Power Ranking to face a Lions team still stinging from their game against the Packers. Somehow I don’t think this is the week to right the ship, and the Chargers are establishing they are for real. Los Angeles (A) 28 – Detroit 17
Indianapolis (0-2) @ Cincinnati (1-1)
So the Colts were caught in the 4th quarter two weeks in a row to start their season at 0-2, and now face a Bengals team that has everything they need to make a Super Bowl run. Can the Colts win this game…absolutely. But my Magic 8 Ball says it looks cloudy, and I would have to agree against a Bengals team stung by the Jags this past week. Indianapolis 17 – Cincinnati 24
Tampa Bay (0-2) @ New Orleans (2-0)
Man, the Saints are using more smoke and mirrors than David Copperfield, and host a Buccaneers team that matches up with them on paper. Now, would it be a stretch to see the Bucs get their first win…not at all. But like anyone will tell you in Vegas, always go with the hot hand. Tampa Bay 18 – New Orleans 21
New York (N) (1-1) @ Minnesota (2-0)
The rejuvenated Vikings may still be waiting to play the meat of their schedule, but they are certainly enjoying having a QB that can make some plays. This week, they play a Giants team still feeling their way, though they did come back from being shut out by the Browns with a solid win against the Colts. So of course, this game hinges on the QB play of NYN; I think if it’s even close, the Giants have enough talent to hand the Vikings their first loss and start to make sense of the NFC Central. New York (N) 27 – Minnesota 24
Philadelphia (0-2) @ Atlanta (0-2)
The great philosopher Hans Gruber once said: “You ask for a miracle, I give you the FBI”. Well, I don’t think playing the Falcons qualifies as a miracle, and it certainly won’t next season, but for the lowest scoring team in the league, playing the Falcons might qualify as a well-needed retreat. Philadelphia 21 - Atlanta 14
Denver (1-1) @ Buffalo (2-0)
Denver evened their record against a stubborn Chiefs team, and is rewarded by getting to play a Bills team that is one of the top teams in the AFC. While the Broncos finally got their offense going last week, the Bills present a tougher challenge, and probably will hand Rudy his 2nd loss of the season. Denver 14 – Buffalo 21
Cleveland (2-0) @ Jacksonville (2-0)
The defending SB champs have started the season with 3 solid opponents, and so far shut down the first 2; this week, they face a Cleveland team that has yet to allow a point, but I somehow don’t think that will continue for another week. If there is any doubt, go with the champs, until someone proves they can beat them. Cleveland 17 – Jacksonville 24
San Francisco (0-2) @ Kansas City (0-2)
Both of these teams are looking for their first win, and both teams are looking to stay out of the basement in the AFC West. These teams match up well, and should make for a competitive contest; that said, one team is kind of pointing up and one team is pointing kinda sideways. I am going with the team pointing up, though it seriously could go either way. San Francisco 23 – Kansas City 24
Arizona (1-1) @ Dallas (0-2)
These two teams played in the Wildcard round of the playoffs, and that seems like years ago. I can tell you that the trade sending Goff to Minnesota may reap a long-term gain, but is definitely not working out so far this year, while Dallas is having their own issues on offense. In games like this, I tend to go with either the home team or the team with the better QB….so….. Arizona 21 – Dallas 24
