Week 10: JAX Jumps BAL, 17-14

In an unusual game, Jacksonville used 3 FGs and a late TD to overtake the Ravens in Baltimore, 17-14[/b].

Baltimore's Lamar Jackson ripped off a 20 yard run on the second play from scrimmage, then a 13 yard connection with TE Mark Andrews, but four straight run plays failed to produce 10 yards and the Jaguars took over on their own 38.
Jacksonville methodically moved 33 yards in 9 plays, but their own 4th down conversion attempt failed when RB James Robinson was stonewalled short of the line to gain at the Ravens 28.

On the first play after the change of possession, CB Bryce Callahan intercepted Jackson's pass. Three plays later K Ryan Succop booted a 47-yard FG. JAX 3-0[/b].

Two punts ensued with the Ravens taking over at their own 13. After a 1 yard loss, a 5 yard PEN against BAL and two other plays failed to gain any yardage, the Ravens punted with the Jags taking control at the Raven 37. Robinson and QB Tom Brady matriculated the Jags down to the Raven 5, where faced with a 4th-and-1, Coach Taylor called for the TB Sneak. The Ravens' D stopped him cold.

Taking a gamble, Coach Master called for a long fly to WR Marquise Brown...and it worked! 96 yards later, Brown was prancing into the end zone. Justin Tucker's PAT made it 7-3 BAL[/b].

Four punts ensued, but the Jags and Tom Brady had 48 seconds remaining before the half. Plenty of time for the old vet. After WR Danny Amendola fumbled a FD catch, Kendrick Bourne recovered allowing Jacksonville to maintain possession. Amendola then made a key 10 yard catch that set up Succup for a 39 yard FG just before the half. 7-6 BAL at the half.

Unless you like defensive struggles, the third quarter was a bore, with each team punting twice. Literally, the longest plays of the quarter were an 18-yard run by Baltimore's JK Dobbins (which gave them their only FD of the quarter), a 16-yard Brady-to-Bernard screen and a 15-yard personal foul PEN against Baltimore's CB Marcus Peters.
Just 24 seconds into the 4th, Succop booted his third FG of the day, a 47 yarder, giving the Jags a 9-7 lead
.

To this point in the game, the Ravens totaled just about 200 yards of total offense for the game - with 96 of it coming on the one bomb to Hollywood Brown - but after a 9 yards completion from Jackson to TE Mark Andrews and an incomplete pass, JK Dobbins bust through the line on a 3rd-and-one for 59 yards - down to the Jaguar 2. Two plays later, Lamar bootlegged it in and the Ravens were back on top, 14-9 Ravens
.

Unperturbed, Brady led the Jags on a 10-play, 75-yard drive that culminated in a 9-yard Brady-to-Giovani Bernard TD. Le'Veon Bell, filling in for the injured James Robinson, plowed in with the 2-point conversion. JAX 17-14
, with about 6 1/2 minutes on the clock.

Lamar Jackson was able to advance his Ravens to about mid-field, but his 4th-and-4 attempt at his own 45 fell a yard short when Carlos Dunlap collared him to the ground and the Jags danced on the Ravens shield at mid-field.

The league media gave Brady the game's MVP award. I suppose he was the best of a bad lot. Brady's QBR was just 73.4 on 23-for-43 attempts for 196 yards and a TD.  Lamar Jackson, never known as a passer yet somehow posting a 111 QBR through 9 games, returned to earth with a dismal 49.1 that included 2 INTs among his 8-for-19 pass attempts. Furthermore, he was bottled up by Jacksonville's spying D, limiting the prolific runner to 43 yards on 13 carries for a 3.3 average.

JK Dobbins led all runners with 80 yards on 10 carries, but 59 came on one play! Take that one out and he gained just 21 on 9 carries (2.3 per carry). Marquis "Hollywood" Brown led all receivers with 105 yards on two receptions, but 96 came one play.

TE Mark Andrews, along with four Jags (Amendola, Bernard, Keelan Cole and Robinson), had 4 receptions.
Neither team produced a sack. Outside of the two INTs - one by Callahan for no return and one by David Wingard just before the half - nobody really stood out.

It was kind of a weird game, but in the end, the team with the better coaching won out. Except for a couple home runs, Coach Taylor bottled up the Ravens O all day and did just enough...at the right time...to edge out the Ravens.
Both teams now own 5-5 records. Baltimore hits the road for games at New England (7-2) and Pittsburgh (0-9) the next two weeks. Jacksonville stays on the road with a game at Houston (3-6) next week, then gets the Patriots at home after the Ravens get a chance to rough them up.

Game file has been uploaded to the league website.
