Jacksonville @ Cleveland
Cleveland Browns Stadium. Temp 48 Wind 10-20

After Jacksonville forced a three and out on the Browns opening drive, they took over at their own 22. Justin Herbert attacked Cleveland secondary early with 4 straight completions for 43 yards down to Cle 34. After a run by Henry for no yards, Herbert went back to the air with passes to Godwin (13), Fuller (12) and a dump off to Henry who rumbled up field for 9 yards and the touchdown. JAX 7-0


Cleveland moved the ball to midfield on their next drive but failed on a 3rd and six and was force to punt. The teams would then exchange 7 straight punts (4 by Jacksonville). Both teams came into the game in the top five in scoring offense. But, in the first half, the game turned into a defensive slug fest. Defenders on both sides took turns laying the wood on their opponent. Cleveland would finally get into scoring range with Stafford completing three straight for 44 yards to move the ball to JAX 11. Jacksonville defense stood their ground and forced a 34 yard field goal by Santos. JAX 7-3


Under two minutes left in the half, Henry would take the hand off on a third and one play. He was hit after making the first down and fumbled as Wagner jumped on the loose pigskin for the game's first turnover. Jeremy McNichols breaks two runs of 21 and 10, moving the ball to the 6. Two plays later on third and goal Stafford found Akins over the middle for the touchdown. As the half ended with Cleveland on top 10-7


The second half started with each team exchanging punts. When Jacksonville got the ball back, coach Studybaker called a bomb from their own 10 as Herbert connected with Fuller for 63 yards. While the defense was still in shock, Herbert completed another pass to Fuller for 16. His third and final play of the drive was an 11 yards out pass for the touchdown. It took Jacksonville just three plays to go 90 yards and retake the lead. JAX 14-10 Cleveland would next come out passing as Stafford threw four straight passes to Anderson, 3 were completed for 42 yards. From the 33, Stafford went to Diggs over the middle for 16 down to the 17. The next play, back over the middle, this time to his tight end Smith for the touchdown. CLE 17-14


Jacksonville went to the ground as Henry picked up 15 yards on two carries. Herbert would go back to Fuller on a bomb fly for 49 yards down to the 18. Next play, Herbert on an out pass to Godwin in the corner of the endzone as Jacksonville is back on top. JAX 21-17 On Jacksonville's next drive, Herbert would go deep again, this time to Godwin for 43 yards down to the 26. But, a penalty and a sack pushed the ball back to the 32. A 50 yard FG by Gould was no good as the third quarter ended.


Cleveland with the ball and facing a 3rd and seven, Matthew Stafford called his own number on a scramble picking up 17. Hunt runs sweep right for 14 down to the 12. Three short passes to Hunt (5) and Diggs (4, 3), the last for the touchdown. Cleveland retakes the lead 24-21.

Jacksonville was forced to punt on their next drive. With 9:09 left, Cleveland used a mixture of short passes and a big run from Hunt (31) to move the ball to the 15. Santos would come on to kick the 33 yard field goal. CLE 27-21


Down by 6 and with 5:33 left, Jacksonville went to their work horse Henry to start off the drive. Gains of 10, 5 ,4 and 1 moved the ball to their own 44. On 4th and inches Herbert sneaked it over for the yard. Henry was tackled for minus 4 on the next play. A second down pass to Slayton picks up 7. Going into a 20 mph wind, Herbert's next pass over the middle was off target. On 4th and 7 Herbert's pass to Godwin came up 3 yards short with 2:22 left. Cleveland would go on to run the clock out and take game one of this divisional match up. Cleveland 27-21
