Week 2 Game of the Week. Steelers at Patriots

🏈 PFL GAME OF THE WEEK — WEEK 2

Pittsburgh Steelers at New England Patriots

Two 0-1 Teams. One Chance to Get Back on Track.

Week 2 of the Paydirt Football League brings an intriguing matchup between two teams looking to erase the memory of an opening-week loss. The Pittsburgh Steelers travel to New England to take on the Patriots, with both coaches sitting at 0-1 and both teams looking to put their first win of the season on the board.

This one features a fascinating contrast in styles. Pittsburgh brings a veteran quarterback and a defense loaded with high-OVR stars, while New England counters with a young, high-rated quarterback and an impressive collection of offensive weapons.

The question is simple: which team can turn its talent into production when it matters most?

🖤💛 PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Record: 0-1

The Steelers' opening-week numbers tell an interesting story. Aaron Rodgers completed 16 of 35 passes for 148 yards, while Pittsburgh's running game provided its biggest offensive spark.

Rico Dowdle carried the ball 14 times for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 7.5 yards per carry. Jaylen Warren added 22 yards on 11 attempts.

That rushing production could be particularly important against New England.

Steelers Players to Watch

T.J. Watt — OVR 88
Watt remains one of the biggest defensive weapons on either roster. His 88 OVR rating puts him just behind teammate Cam Heyward among Pittsburgh's highest-rated players.

Cam Heyward — OVR 89
The Steelers' highest-rated player could be critical in the middle of the defensive front. At 89 OVR, Heyward gives Pittsburgh a major presence against the Patriots' offensive line and rushing attack.

Troy Fautanu — OVR 86
Fautanu is Pittsburgh's highest-rated offensive lineman and could have a major assignment against New England's pass rush.

DK Metcalf — OVR 85
Metcalf gives Rodgers a premier target. He led Pittsburgh in receiving after Week 1 with four catches for 52 yards.

Rico Dowdle — OVR 85
After his 105-yard, two-touchdown performance, Dowdle is clearly one of the players New England will need to account for.

Jalen Ramsey — OVR 84 / Joey Porter — OVR 84
Pittsburgh has two 84-OVR cornerbacks capable of making life difficult for New England's receivers.

🔵⚪ NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

Record: 0-1

The Patriots' opening-week passing numbers were considerably stronger than Pittsburgh's.

Drake Maye completed 29 of 47 passes for 325 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hunter Henry led the Patriots with eight receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown, while Romeo Doubs added seven catches for 80 yards.

New England will look to keep that passing attack moving against a Pittsburgh secondary featuring several high-rated defensive backs.

Patriots Players to Watch

A.J. Brown — OVR 88
Brown is New England's highest-rated player and one of the biggest offensive weapons on the field. He caught six passes for 54 yards and a touchdown in Week 1.

Drake Maye — OVR 86
Maye enters Week 2 with the numbers to back up his rating. His 325 passing yards and two touchdowns give the Patriots a dangerous passing game.

Christian Gonzalez — OVR 86
Gonzalez is one half of an impressive Patriots cornerback tandem and will have a major challenge against Metcalf and Pittsburgh's receiving corps.

Marcus Jones — OVR 86
Another 86-OVR defensive back gives New England plenty of speed and athleticism in the secondary.

Kevin Byard III — OVR 87
Byard is New England's highest-rated defensive player and gives the Patriots a veteran presence at safety.

Hunter Henry — OVR 85
Henry's eight catches for 107 yards and a touchdown made him the Patriots' leading receiver in Week 1. Pittsburgh cannot afford to lose track of him.

🔥 THE MATCHUP

Steelers Defense vs. Patriots Passing Game

This could be the matchup that determines the game.

New England produced 325 passing yards in Week 1, while Pittsburgh's defense features Heyward (89), Watt (88), Highsmith (83), Ramsey (84) and Porter (84).

If Pittsburgh can pressure Maye and disrupt the Patriots' passing rhythm, the Steelers could force New England into longer-yardage situations.

But if Maye gets time, New England has enough weapons to challenge Pittsburgh's secondary.

Steelers Running Game vs. Patriots Front

Pittsburgh's 105-yard performance from Dowdle is another major storyline.

Dowdle's 85 OVR is tied with Henry for the same rating as one of New England's premier offensive weapons. Jaylen Warren is also rated 83 OVR.

New England counters with Milton Williams (82), Harold Landry III (83), Mike Onwenu (84) and several other highly rated defenders.

If Pittsburgh establishes the run, Rodgers could find himself in much more manageable passing situations.

⚔️ KEY BATTLE

Aaron Rodgers vs. Drake Maye

The quarterbacks couldn't have had more different opening weeks statistically.

Rodgers:
16/35 — 148 yards — 0 TD

Maye:
29/47 — 325 yards — 2 TD

The OVR ratings also favor Maye:

Drake Maye — 86 OVR
Aaron Rodgers — 77 OVR

But this is where the PFL gets interesting.

A quarterback's rating doesn't play the game by itself. The coach still has to make the decisions, call the plays and manage the team.

Rodgers has the veteran experience. Maye enters the matchup with the higher OVR rating and much stronger Week 1 passing production.

🏆 GAME OF THE WEEK OUTLOOK

Both teams enter Week 2 at 0-1, making this an early-season pressure game.

Pittsburgh has the defensive firepower to make life difficult for Maye, while New England has the passing attack to exploit any openings in the Steelers secondary.

The Steelers' best path may be to establish Dowdle and Warren early, protect Rodgers and allow their defense to dictate the game.

New England will likely want to put the ball in Maye's hands and take advantage of its collection of high-rated receivers, particularly A.J. Brown and Hunter Henry.

THE PFL WEEK 2 QUESTION:

Can Pittsburgh's veteran defense and rushing attack slow down Drake Maye and the Patriots' high-powered passing game?

Or will New England's young quarterback continue the production he showed in Week 1?

Two 0-1 teams.

One win.

That's what makes this the PFL Week 2 Game of the Week.

Patriots win 27 to 23
