AFC Playoff Predictions

#1 seed – Jacksonville (predicted AFC East Divisional Champions)

7 – 1 at the half-way mark. Only 3 games remaining against tough teams (Buffalo, Miami, and Cleveland). Losing to Cleveland a second time could knock them out of the top spot in the AFC East. Even if they lose all 3 they will finish 12 – 4. To me they are the team to beat in the NFC.

#2 seed – Denver (predicted AFC West Divisional Champions)

7 – 1 at the half-way mark. 6 formidable teams are included in their remaining schedule with matchups against Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Miami, San Francisco (twice), and Carolina. To hold on to their current #1 seed, they will need to keep pace with the Jaguars. Will be a challenge as their schedule is more difficult.

#3 seed – Indianapolis (predicted AFC Central Divisional Champions)

5 – 3 at the half way mark. Barely defeated the Titans on a failed 2 point conversion. May end up being why they make the playoffs. 4 tough games remaining against Cleveland, Miami, Chicago, and the rematch against Tennessee. If they defeat Tennessee again that should wrap up the AFC Central title.

Tennessee

3 – 5 at the half way mark, 2 games behind Indianapolis. Oh so close to being 4 – 4 and tied with the Colts. Have to move forward though. 4 tough games remaining against Minnesota, Jacksonville, New England, and a must win rematch against the Colts. Have to win the division to make the playoffs. Hard to see them winning more than 8 games.

Wild card teams

Las Vegas

Currently 6 – 2 at the half way mark. 5 key games will decide their playoff seeding with contests against Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco (twice), and Carolina. Nip and tuck with Denver for the AFC West crown.

Cleveland

Currently 6 – 2 at the half way mark. 5 tough games the second half of the season against New England, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, and Buffalo. Will likely take winning most of these games if they want to try and catch Jacksonville for the divisional title (a very difficult task for them or anyone ).

Buffalo

Currently 5 – 3 at the half way mark. The Bills have one of the toughest remaining schedules in the PAFL with 6 tough games. The Bills face New England, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, Miami, Cleveland, and Arizona. Will need at least 3 wins to get to 10 – 6. I’m not sure 9 wins is enough to make the playoffs as a wild card team.

San Francisco

Very quietly they are sitting on a 5 – 3 record at the half way mark. Still in the mix for the AFC West championship as they will play Las Vegas and Denver twice. Throw in key games against New England and Seattle and the 49ers control their own destiny. They have the potential to finish with 10 wins and knock an AFC East team out of the playoffs. To reach this goal will take a vintage mix of Fitzmagic and Cam.

New England

Currently 4 – 4 at the half way mark in the brutal AFC East. 5 tough games remain against Buffalo, Los Angeles, Miami, Cleveland, and Arizona. Can only lose 2 of these games to finish at 10-6. As mentioned earlier, will 9 wins qualify for a wild card spot?

Seattle

Currently 4 – 4 at the half way mark. 5 tough games remain against San Francisco (who they defeated earlier), Miami, Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Indianapolis. Can only lose 2 of these games to finish at 10-6 which I think is the threshold necessary to make the playoffs.
