Week 9 Predictions

Where is Gardner?
Titans (4-4) coming off an impressive defensive performance as they shutout the Bills to remain in the AFC East race.  Tennessee intercepted Josh Allen 3 times and limited Buffalo to 206 yards of offense.  Patriots (2-6) lost their 5th game in a row to the Colts.  After a 2-1 start, it is obvious that Minshew mania has subsided.  TEN 27 NE 17

Coaching controversy brewing
Lions (1-7) behind sub coach Law pulled off a huge upset of the previously undefeated Bengals last week.  This week they face the last undefeated team in the PSAFL.  Rams (8-0) continue to look like the team to beat in the NFC.  Los Angeles has only had 1 game that was a single possession victory and that was in week 2.  No Mr Law this week.  LAR 31 DET 3

Someone has to win
Commanders (2-6) on a 4 game losing streak.  They have really struggled without coach Andy at the helm.  Saints (1-7) have not won since week 1 though last week they gave the Panthers a tight game.  New Orleans with a reasonable shot to defeat Washington.  NO 21 WAS 20

Key NFC Central battle
Carolina (4-4) had to come from behind to defeat New Orleans.  This allows them to stay within striking distance of Tampa Bay (6-2).  The Buccaneers had a "Field" day against the Bears last week confounding the Chicago offense.  Carolina doesn't want to fall 3 games behind Tampa Bay.  CAR 24 TB 21

Giant problems
New York (3-5) has put their playoff hunt in jeopardy with their play in the last 2 weeks.  After getting scalped by the Chiefs and Pat Mahommes, this week they stay in the AFC West and face the Chargers (5-3).  The wheels have totally fallen off as New York has scored a total of 10 points the last 2 weeks combined.  Los Angeles are on a 4 game winning streak.  Similarly to New York, the Chiefs had their way against them.  Can the Giants get back on the winning track?  Will the Chargers stay 1 game behind the Chiefs?  NY 16 SD 20

Can lightning strike again this week?
Cincinnati (7-1) was shocked last week falling to the previously winless Detroit Lions.  Coupled with the Browns winning, the Bengals lead in the AFC Central is down to a single game.  Ravens (1-7) came up just short against da Raiders last week.  Ravens only converting 24% on third down.  I suspect the Bengals will be ready to play.  CIN 31 BAL 13

When will this end?
Jacksonville (1-7) in the middle of a very tough stretch of games.  Jaguars are long on fight but a bit short on talent.  But in a few years the Jaguars will be much improved.  Seattle (5-3) allowed a late TD to San Francisco which has put them in a tie for second place in the NFC West.  Seahawks should be able to soar again this week.  SEA 30 JAC 10

Game of the week
Indianapolis (7-1) is riding a 3 game winning streak.  They hold a 2 game lead in the AFC East Division.  Colts are +8 on turnovers and only allow 31% of third down conversions.  Philadelphia (5-3) also are riding a 3 game winning streak.  Eagles trail the Cowboys by 1 game in the NFC East division.  Shuld be an interesting duel between Stroud and Purdy.  IND 27 PHI 20

AFC West matchup
Las Vegas (3-5) coming off a victory against the Ravens.  If da Raiders can overcome the Texans, they will move into a tie for 3rd place in the division.  Las Vegas is -10 on turnovers.  After a hot start to the season, Houston (4-4) enters this game on a 3 game losing streak.  Titans averaging 2.9 yards per rush.  Injuries are starting to pile up for the Raiders.  If Baker plays well it should be a close game.  LV 17 HOU 16

Is Fields due or done?
Chicago (2-6) experienced another showing of "Bad Fields".  Tampa Bay limited Chicago's offense.  In the Bears 2 victories, Fields played his best games leading the offense to 30 points each game.  Minnesota (3-5) is also coming off a tough game offensively as Cleveland only allowed the Vikings to put 10 points on the scoreboard.  Vikings have the superior quarterback.  Call me optimistic, but I'll go with Fields playing a decent game.  CHI 23 MIN 20

Just win baby
Dallas (6-2) sits atop the NFC East division.  Cowboys struggled last week against the Packers.  In fact struggle is the name of this season for Dallas.  But they typically find a way to hang on.  San Francisco (5-3) defeated Seattle last week to tie for second place in the NFC West.  In contrast to the Cowboys, Shawn has the 49ers getting the most from their talent.  I'll go with the Al Davis quote and count on Len's Cowboys to win.  DAL 28 SF 17

It ain't over yet
After the Browns (6-2) stumbled out of the gate, they find themselves only 1 game behind the Bengals with a huge assist by the Lions.  Cleveland has won 4 games in a row and are beginning to hit their stride.  The Steelers (4-4) have been a solid team.  Pittsburgh will be missing 2 starters in the secondary and Diontae Johnson WR.  Steelers need a win if they want to stay in the AFC Central race.  Browns defeated Pittsburgh to start their current winning streak 24-3.  Won't be surprising to me if a similar result occurs again.  CLE 24 PIT 3

The more things change.  The more they stay the same.
Kansas City (6-2) has ruled the AFC West every year.  They appear on schedule to keep that trend in tact.  After disposing of the Giants, the Chiefs battle another NFC East foe.  But make no mistake about it.  While Derril has the Packers (1-7) armed for battle every week, they are at a significant disadvantage talent wise.  Dallas found out that the Packers "pack" quite a punch last week.  In fact the last 2 games have had the Packers fall by only 3 points.  It will take a herculian effort to stay competitive with Kansas City.  Perhaps Travis will be distracted looking at Taylor in the press box.  KC 38 GB 7

Another game of the week
A battle for second place in the AFC East.  Miami (5-3) while ownerless continue to play exciting football.  Tua has a 100 QBR.  They are converting 50% on third down.  They do have a fair number of injuries to navigate through.  The defending champion Bills (5-3) came up snake eyes against the Titans and can not afford to fall another game behind the galloping Colts.  Josh Allen is coming off a horrendous game yet he still has a 102 QBR.  Maybe a bad game was due.  Maybe this week he rebounds in a major way.  BUF 34  MIA 24
