Welcome to the PDAFL
Superbowl III, the "European Superbowl", where the Green Bay Packers
will play the Cincinnati Bengals for the 3rd PAFL title.
After the victory of coach Tosco, Denver Broncos, of last year, this
time we have not one, but two European coaches that will play for
the title: Daniele Miozzi (Green Bay) and Nino Montalbano
(Cincinnati). Also we have 2 different styles of football: the
ground & pound for GB and the west coast offense for CIN. And last
but not least, two great defenses.
Cincinnati choose to receive to start the game, but had to close
their first drive with a punt. Then, the Packers were forced to do
the same.
After another change of punts, Green Bay starts to play their style
football of ball control and long drives (a characteristic that both
teams have in common) but their drive stalled at the Cincy 11 and
Coach Miozzi opt for a FG: CIN 0 - GB 3.
The next 3 drives saw 3 scores.
First, Cincinnati takes advantage of their offensive line ability to
protect their QB, and this allows Brees to move the ball efficiently
tall the way to the end zone for the first TD of the day with a
slant to AJ Green: CIN 7 - GB 3.
Green Bay replies with another efficient drive, closed by Alex Smith
with a sneak into the Cincy's end zone: CIN 7 - GB 10.
But the Bengals promptly reply with another long drive capped by
another QB sneak: CIN 14 - GB 10.
With 1.14 left in the first half, the Packers try to move the ball
quickly. And that seams to be a good idea when a gain of 44 yards by
Allen Robinson put them on Cincinatti's 36 yard line with 1
minute to go. But, as you know, it's all about what lady luck gives
to you, she taketh away: Result? A sack of Campbell and the fumble
by Smith to give the ball to the Bengals.
Fortunately for coach Miozzi, Cincy was without a timeout, so they
had to settle for a FG try from the 31 (49 yards FG)... and Santos
missed it!
End of first half CIN 14 - GB 10.
The second half saw the Packers run the clock by running the ball.
They used 7.30 minutes off the clock and moved the ball from their
own 35 to the rivals' end zone for a Smith to Megatron connection to
finally take the lead : CIN 14 - GB 17.
After that, both defenses took control of the game and both teams
were no longer able to move the ball. The Bengals were even able to
overcome an interception by Brees.
With 2 minutes left, Green Bay increases their lead and score
another FG from the 16 yard line to fix the score at: CIN 14 - GB
20.
The last drive saw the Bengals, who needed a TD, try a desperate
comeback. But Green Bay is set with one of the things they did
better this year... a prevent deep zone defense, to protect their
lead.
So, Green Bay is the 3rd PAFL Champion, after KC and DEN.
The game was very tight till the end with Cincinnati allowing only 1
sack and 1 int. While they moved the ball very well through air,
their ground attack was stifled, gaining only 48 yards on 17
attempts.
Green Bay was 18/29 for 180 yards, 1 TD, 3 sacks, and a fumble lost,
but absolutely dominant on the ground: 33 for 169 yards and a TD.
Nino played a great game and as i said, both teams stayed in the
game till the end.
That's all folks.
